  • Allow unit stacking inside cities.

While I really like the 'one unit per tile' rule, I think it should be allowed to stack units inside cities to reduce map clutter.
if I choose to produce lets say 50 military units I have no choice but to spread them far and wide around the map - it looks bad and is annoying.

City unit stacking would be for STORAGE purpose only - if a city was attacked while stack is present, only the garrisoned unit would be able to respond - that would eliminate any possibility of a 'stack of doom' type of response.

Now, in case I missed some interface feature which allows for clutter control then I retract my remarks - otherwise lets here other's opinion on the matter

This has been discussed at length in a couple other threads. One discussion I participated in, so I link it for posterity.

The current purpose of the mechanic is to get you to place your units in strategic locations-- not as map clutter, but as actual scary armies the AI has to go up against. I've noticed even on king difficulty that a large army in the west will not deter an invasion from the east, but an army in the east will deter that same invasion.

I think the unit cost pretty much limits you to a relatively small number of troops in your army anyway. The 1UPT then forces you to place them effectively. I doubt I could actually afford a big enough army that I'd need a creative way to store them. Maybe I just suck though :-)

more importantly, at present garrisoning your city anything but archer/artillery/etc makes no sense. it should give the other side a run for their money when invading the cities (like in Russia/Japan, house by house), or expunge your unit.

Civ5 is a game for small army's. No way you can make 50 units in civ5. I think that maint cost for everything is way to high.
Civilization is a game where man dominate a fictive world.. woman does it for real

Fully agree on the uselessness of direct combat garrisons.

Garrisoned units being attacked in cities should receive larger bombardment and direct combat bonuses to reflect urban warfare.
