Those are the only 3 games I've ever purchased on Impulse, and every one of them has had issues.
    Interesting...
I also bought Sins and Galciv II (Trinity) via Impulse and never had any problems with them
(and both of them are installed on my 2 Windows Main PCs as well as my Laptop)

I still have some old Microprose games on CD (X-Com and X-Com2). I even have one on 3.5" diskette (Darklands), though my new computer doesn't have a floppy drive. These still work on one of my older computers.

Man I miss Microprose. They published some awesome games.

Yep. And truly, what's the point of distributing the game to your friends if you can't play against each other online or via LAN.

After watching the game play footage, I have to admit: anyone trumpeting the fact they aren't going to buy this game because of Steam sounds pretty silly. We all know you're going to play - c'mon now.

        • Does Steam still have the 1€ = 1$ problem?

I have never had steam installed*, so I don't know much about it, except the above problem was in the news long time ago. If the above is still a problem, I'm surprised people from Europe are still buying games through Steam... Sounds like I'll buy the game the old way, have some online store send it by post

I have never been fond of Steam, but I have heard that the complaints I had about it before has been fixed... maybe with the exception of the 1€ = 1$ problem

*Though I have played a few steam-only games on my computer... but that's a different story

          • I can see that one of the problems I had with steam hasn't been fixed yet: Release date
We're talking about digital releases, why is there a different release date for US and Europe? It's the same 0's and 1's we'll get no matter where we live, right?

Wow, I just checked the prices on steam. I can't see why anyone would want to buy games on steam, if what I saw is the normal thing for steam prices. I just checked a few random games. At best it was the same price, but mostly it was like somewhere between 50% and 100% more expensive. For Civ V it was ~60% more expensive than Amazon... Maybe I was just unlucky with the games I looked at, I sure hope that's not normal

            • For Civ V the 1 € = 1 $ problem seems to be definitely the case,
also for other games I checked...
I am glad that Steam isn´t the only place where I can buy Civ V,
as else I definitely wouldn´t buy it (for this price)
or only buy it after a year, when hopefully Steam would have special deals for Civ V

You can blame the brick and mortar stores for that. If they released the Euro version on the same day as the American one the retail stores would throw a fit.

                • I've been researching the Steam Client and the more I learn the less I'm willing to install this intrusive POS. So as it stands now I will not be playing Civ 5.

Here's a question for Sid. Does he have the Steam Client installed on a PC along with his personal information (passwords, taxes, etc)? Somehow I doubt it. I have no problem with online product registration as a means to protect copyrighted material but the threat to privacy posed by the Steam Client is bull****. Where's the ethics Sid?

                  Adieu

You seem to have no trouble accepting an OS, a web browser and various online games; which are more likely to steal your personal information than Steam since various web browser exploits have already occurred in the past.

Why do you put Steam in a special category? If you have any actual evidence that Steam has ever stole someone's protected information from their computer and uploaded it to Valve, we'd love to hear all about it. Otherwise, you're just a nut ranting that every one of his perfectly normal neighbors should all be put in jail because any day now they could snap and become psychotic killers and your life is in danger.

                            • Will there be a "direct IP connection" MP option in civ5? How about LAN, hotseat?

Basicaly I want to know if it's going to be mandatory to go through steam to play MP.
