Or it could be just a guy they made for PR. He is part of a PR video after all.

He's probably from the intro cinematic. Some tribal elder foretelling of the future of your civilization.

well... the earings make me think "native american". The tent seems a little well furnished for the average Teepee.

        But a comparison to...

...is possible. The hair is wrong but the eyes look right.

However this just completely ignores the fact that native americans cannot grow facial hair... so I'm 99% sure I'm off base.

However it does also bring to mind somone else, possibly a combination of

        and

but that again, speculation on my part.

Good guess, that would be my bet too.

Hauptman, the eyes don't mean anything. A lot of elderly people have eyes like that. If he were young, then maybe. Also, his face is all wrong for a Native American. His face is long and narrow with a long nose with a prominent bridge. Native Americans are much more round-faced.

The earrings also screw things up. What culture has earrings like that? His tunic is reminiscent of Greek but Greek men didn't wear earrings, did they?

Also, in the background, there is some sophistication with the structure or whatever it is. Notice the carved wooden support or whatever it is. That is too advanced for this guy to be a primitive.

Seriously, the guy isn't Askia. Firaxis certainly has taken some liberties with leader appearance in the past, but they wouldn't go as far as portraying a person who is completely, unquestionably black as being white. And nobody says this has to be a leader. The launch trailer includes random samurai, viking explorers (with the vikings not even being in the game) and random US revolutionary period soldiers. Why not, then, a random tribal man?

Oh and if Jon Shafer really is Trip and he's the freaking lead designer (wow ), I highly doubt Apolyton is being ignored.
