Now, the system specs haven't been released yet but normally each new version of civ requires a major jump in computer specs in order to run the latest version. So are you thinking about buying a new computer just so you can play Civ5?

nah, Q95550 and a nVidia 260 should be plenty to play the game - if I need to get a new graphics card I can always get a decent ATI for £100 easy. If I have to up it to 8GB of ram, Blue Ray, or a 1Tb drive to store the game, well, that's the advantage of not buyiing a Dell. You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Who cares for the warranty? The guaranty is still in place, for up to 3 years IIRC. Actually, even longer in Norway, as our guaranty rules are rather good.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10

Well, for me the choice is easy...
I already planned last year, that this year I would assemble a new computer
(the most important parts are already 5 years old), so I will definitely be able to play Civ V on a new system (although Civ V isn´t the reason why I buy it)Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

I bought a new computer system for Civ4. My 256MB graphics card doesn't handle some huge maps (had to abort a Planet Generator v0.68 game due to graphic crashes every turn), so I'll definitely get a new 1GB graphics card. The computer is single core, so I'll have to see how that goes as I adjust to the game and advance up the map sizes.
Conflict: saving for both a new computer near year end and an iPad (primarily for e-books) a half year earlier. At least my monitor is good.

I will buy a new comp when I need one, and I will make sure it can do what I need it to -- definitely including the playing of Civ5. But I won't buy a new comp just because the game has come out.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011
