Personally I don't much care for the advisers as you watch them once and then ignore them. I'd rather have something which adds to game depth like religion instead.

Well if we're talking about our opinions, while I got a kick from the old video advisors, after a while you're correct they got turned off. Not so much because their novelty wore off as their advice is limited and sometimes stupid. Improve their AI and that'd change.
I got even less out of the throne room.
I totally agree that I'd much rather have useful and well designed gameplay, than eye candy.
I want to be able to create my own governing approaches, instead of relying on black-box presets. And save them in my user profile.
I use the same build list in every conquered city while I'm still at war. No governor option has been able to help me so far.

I hope governance depends on more than just discovering the necessary tech. Things like city and population counts, resources available, even the amount of specific units should be a part of it.
This is, of course, keeping in mind that the old system is being thrown out, ie five categories with five choices each, so that governance style may be able to develop more organically for your civ (instead of the "revolution" mechanic.)

I think of "Build City Walls" as being more from the original, since that was the only city improvement I never built. Therefore, the computer was ALWAYS telling me to build it. (Yeah, cause tripling the native defense of my cities was worth two gold per turn when I was never going to be attacked.)
I just hope the military advisor doesn't always steer you toward junk units. Even in Civ 4, it seemed like the game always wanted you to build things that had no relevance. OK, so I can build SAM infantry, but nobody's discovered Flight yet, so...why? Normal units are more efficient.
