Why does fusion require uranium? Perhaps seawater instead...a truly rare resource

Nuclear Power Plant: Provides the most electricity, causes no pollution, causes severe unhappiness in large cities.
        Requires: Uranium resource
        Maintenance: High.
Special: Creates plutonium resource needed for nuclear weapons.
No Pollution - You cannot be serious - the pollution produced by nuclear power plants will probably last longer than mankind
To err is human, to firgive is against government policy

The best solution to which is probably simply to drop it into the sun (once we have economical interplanetary space travel).

I take it that technology will require more than just Pottery and Alphabet?

But it's not a general environmental hazard, as it can be contained and disposed of safely. It's not getting churned out into the atmosphere.

Yes, but so does Fission and Fusion power, so it should work out.

What's the current method again? I seem to remember they encase it in lead-lined concrete and drop it in the ocean.

It's a bit more sophisticated than that.

Ocean disposal is not officially sanctioned right now, IIRC, due to international maritime regulations.

Railgun it into the sun then?

Underground burial can be done until we have regular jaunts to the sun for disposal.

Still doesn't sound much different from landfill but lasts a lot longer

Landfills are surface sites. Apparently where they put this stuff is way down deep.

You wouldn't need to throw it into the sun, just chucking it out into deep space would suffice. As both are extremely unlikely to ever become cost-effective, however, we need to develop a means of recycling nuclear waste.

All we need is technology to create (or modify) gravitational waves. I don't know that qualifies as "extremely unlikely". We know how to make (and modify) quite a few other kinds of energy. This is not that far-fetched.

might not be sanctioned, but if you throw the stuff in a deep enough space, you don't even need to encase it... the fish down their give light already anyway, and anytime a human will be down there they will be encased in so much metal-lined submarine that radiation isn't an issue for humans either
