  • Starting as a rebel

I think that rebels should play a greater role in future civ games.

There should always be a risk for rebellions, but an authoritarian government should be able to crush them by force. A free government should face war weariness when fighting rebels, and thus have to give them independence.

You should also be able to start as a rebel nation, at war with your motherland. That would be a good challenge.

This might solve the Ancient America problem. There could be a game mode where only ancient civilizations exist in the beginning of the game, and later ones are created as a result of rebellions.

The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

I think it would be interesting, espescially in multiplayer. But first of all, the civ sery will have to incorporate such minor civilizations... Galactic Civilizations may lead the way since it has minor civs, rebellions and so on.

In multiplayer, it could permit newly arrived players to join an already started game.
Go GalCiv, go! Go Society, go!

I agree. Civs should split, then you choose which civ you want to rule. For example, Britain splits vs. American colonies, you choose the U.S. and have to fight against the British, then U.S. splits in U.S./confederates, the U.S. crushes the confederates.

War weariness should exist in every case, except there are some cases where it should be worst. It could be based on the casus belli mainly. Of course, someone beeing attacked normally has a very higher cassus belli.

Rebellions and the like are things that sound good but rarely are well implemented in practice. 2 notable examples are the culture flipping of civ3 and the uprisings in Shogun Total War.

I am not against this per se, but it has to be done with lots of care.

isn't there something like this (new nations born thru rebellion) in CTP2 (and maybe even in CTP1)?

Great example. If this could be done well in cIV, then I'm very excited about the product.

I like the previous post about getting a player into a PBEM game after it's already started.

Well, four of the last five American presidents have been from the south, so maybe they've won at last?

Seriously, even a (more or less) democratic nation should have the option to beat down rebellions by force, still concerning war weariness.

could their be a national guard force idea to do this brow beating?

should cause weariness, but not as much as a real war

i think beating down domestic rebellions should cause less war weariness than waging foreign wars.
