on one hand SMAC is too sci-fi and i'm too lazy to learn all the details, but OTOH civ3 is flat boring.... tough one. i do like that unit workshop thingy in SMAC though. therefore, SMAC

In the end however, i agree with Henrik, civ2 is the best

Civ3, with it's shiny 3d graphics, nice AI, historical units and civilizations, or SMAC, with custom unit design, SE, and sci-fi theme?

I like both of them, for both of these reasons.
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

Small interjection on SMAC's dark graphics. I'm not sure where you could download it now, but there's a mod which changed SMAC's dark red ground to a light tan.

I'm kind of on the fence because I liked both. SMAC had a much better game interface. I also loved the unit workshop and the sci-fi theme. But, Civ3 has a much better ai and the tech eras make more sense.

          SMAC all the way.
