  • Should America be a Civ ?

Curious really. Saw an interesting discussion on Civ fanatics.

Is America too young to be considered a Civ, and should be instead considered simply as a recent offshoot from Europe, like Canada and Australia? Or does it's dominance over the last 60 or so years justify it's inclusion?

Personally I think it's a shame there is no Scandinavian Civ. Where would we be without the Scandies?

I'm English. Would be quite happy without the English as a Civ, but with Anglo Saxons or something like that.

    Enjoy.

No. Too young, and a recent ex-colony like others

Yes. Modern influence is too strong to be discounted.

I agree Nacht, it's a real shame the Dutch aren't in there.

I agree - please, mods, lock this thread. (And its brother.) These threads do nothing but perpetuate bad feeling.

Firaxis would be stupid not to have it in. Many americans love to play it as it evokes that national sense. See the poll at civfanatics.

And by the same reasoning, perhaps Napoleon shouldn't be a leader just because he wasn't born in 2000-3000 BC as he doesn't represent an older civ leader?

But me like older civs. Always play with them as they evoke my feelings the most.

What bad feeling? Really, why should there be any bad feeling? Just a way of passing time discussing a part of the game until we get more info.

Why the negativity? If you find it boring, so will others and this will just drift away...

Btw, I would like Canada included, with Wayne Gretzky as a leader. Financial and creative, right?

Yep, I can actually agree on closing these kinds of threads.

What a "civilization" after all ?

A social concept, defined by whom ever has an interest in it. What criterion do you take ?

I am French and nevertheless I voted for America as a civ. Because if America is not included in Civ IV, noone will ever buy it on the other shore of the Atlantic ocean. And, as the US is the biggest game market (after Japan), it means that Civ IV would never get a sequel (or its patchs, add-ons etc.)

Well I can understand that one. To realisticly include the Dutch they should give them at least 6 of the 8 treats which would hugely imbalance the game.

                              Good thinking.
