The Spanish are fun if I want to be the big bad murderous bastard, the French if I want to be the opposite and the Dutch when I seriously want to get down to the business of colonisation & trade. The English never appealed to me.

      Really?

They were always my favorites because of the extra settlers.

      Everybody is different

I don't think it's fun to have lots of settlers, since it creates too much micromanagement, which is why I don't like the English. (which also is why I rarely finish a game)

              I vote:
Dutch #1 - Merchantman makes for much more effective trips to europe at the beginning - more goods sold/more settlers
English #2 - Extra people really helps
French #3 - Sometimes I like to concentrate on making one tribe my bodyguards, I find a large tribe, arm them to the teeth, and have them fight my WoI
Spanish #4 - Yeah, when you wanna be a murderous bastard

I like keeping my number of colonies limited, then concentrate of 4-6 colonies and beef the hell outta them. As the french I may throw a landlocked outpost or two into the middle of the native land as well.

The Spanish give you SO much cash from cities once you've got Cortes that you don;t need to worry about training specialists from convicts/freemen all the time - you just hire them from Europe, and have mney to spare.

The English give you lots of colonists, yeah, but you need to train them to get the most out of them. That takes much MM, time, and investment of resources. If you;re the Spanish you just get Cortes, burn a few villages, then buy a Galleon with a whole lot of conscript Dragoons and wipe out another city. Collect cash, buy what you need and clean house.
                  Consul.

Back to the ROOTS of addiction. My first missed poll!

The number of indian cities is limited, so it's only temporary flow of cash. I think I played 1 Spanish game, or none at all

Tie between all the native tribes, the Vikings, the Russians, the Chinese, and the Phonecians. Oh wait, you're talking about the existing game.
