Hannibal crossed the Alps -- with one surviving elephant -- at the (IIRC) Brenner Pass; in my own mods passes are diagonally-adjacent mountains amidst impassable mountain tiles.Originally posted by Tattila the Hun

Yes, thanks to intense diversion of water from every imaginable source of water within striking distance; and it and other SouthWest US conurbations are rapidly depleting the natural fresh-water infrastructure upon which they depend.Originally posted by Sava
Las Vegas is built on a desert.

We are human, hear us roar! Plus, what the hell else are we going to put in the desert? Don't worry Oz, one day you'll get your wish, maybe, an asteroid will obliterate humans and nature will once again rule the Earth. To us, it is the BEAST.

Thanks. Although so far, it's turning out to be wrong. Which is good. I'd rather be wrong then see people die.
I think cities should be built anywhere, even mountains. Since one tile of terrain in this game generally represents 100's of square miles, it isn't totally insane to have cities on any kind of terrain. To us, it is the BEAST.

Actually, I rather like our species, especially at its best -- which doesn't, metaphorically, include fouling our own bathwater.Originally posted by Sava

Mess awayOriginally posted by Sava
That's okay Oz, I'm just messing with you. Create a thread in the OT and we can discuss the human effects on water.
And the issue of water is at once so huge (the point at hand; the IMF et. al. forcing the privatization of water in the 3rd world, raising the cost of water beyond the ability of the residents to pay) and yet such a small subset of the overall issue of the human impact on the environment that we might as well each right a pair of PhD dissertations.
