yah, but looking at your last screenshot, it appears rivers run over just about anything... including the regular fortresses.

Plus, If the fortresses have shadows... (do they) I might be able to pull off some optical illusions.

Yep, the river (or rather the waterfall) in the last pic is on top of the fortress, but that's only because the waterfall is right in the middle of the tile (not in the edges of the tiles as the regular rivers flow).

The shadows of the fortresses are in the same file as the forts themself (terrainbuildings.pcx). It's not any magic cyan or magic green, it's just some random brown, or whatever you wish for the colour of the shadow be.

I use brown in all those files.

        Very nice.

Now that I've given up playing CIV3/PtW (so I wont patch anymore) I'm gonna start working on different graphics again (in my case a few unit mods) . Its interesting to see what new work (such as your fortresses) is out here.

As I had some free time on my hands, I decided to make the industrial age fortress too, even though I think that the original looks quite right to me. So this is just for the variation, option and fun.

And here's the terrainbuildings.pcx to go with it (if somebody actually likes it and decides to use it... )

How about replacing the connecting diagonal walls in the fortress i post #2 with something like barb wire or a fence? It will be small and featureless, I know, but it should be possible to see that there is something impassable between the fortresses.

This could also be done with each era's fortress in a similar, appropriate design.

This would also make the rivers look right, since they would seem to overlap the wire/fence, when seen from above, like the view is in the game.

It would also look right when building a single fortress, as it's needed to slow down any enemy trying to seize the fortress.

                Not a bad idea, Notech.

Modern > barb wire & 'steel crosses' (look at any movie about WW2)
Industrial > some kind of fence
Medieval > some 'another' kind of fence
Ancient > I have no idea

Here's a better version of industrial fort - I removed the tower from inside the walls. Now it looks better

I'd like to see a fortress that looked like a WW2-style pillbox. Like on the beaches of Normandy in "Saving Private Ryan".

                      Nice job though aaglo
