  • Small Wonder Ideas

Here's some Small Wonder ideas I've come up with. This is kind of sketchy, and it's not like I've actually added them to my game or anything, but it's just some ideas.

    Public School System
    Requires Education
Requires 5 Universities (or maybe just 5 Libraries)
Adds to Science output throughout the civlilization or Increases Happiness

    Bill of Rights
    Requires Democracy
    Requires 5 Courthouses
    Decreases Corruption/Increases Happiness

You know, stuff like that. Any comments?
Whew! I'm back and ready to start writing again.

I love listening to other people's wonder ideas. There are so many people here who are really well informed about history and/or have some great ideas.

I use a pretty heavily modified game, but I haven't added any new wonders yet, except an additional Forbidden Palace. I call it Provincial Capital and is available in the mid/late Middle Ages.

Here some really good ideas from Kal-el's DyP Mod.

I have added a couple of small wonders that require the resources to be within the city radius, both add culture and a bit of happiness:

Jewlers - needs gems & gold (gold changed from bonus to strategic)

Shunzu Silk - needs silk and dyes
The true nature of a man is shown by what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Silk Road as a small wonder, maybe? Or possibly King Solomon's Mines? I know there's no prrof that the latter ever existed, but still...

From that Modm as far as Great Wonders go, I like the Sphinx, Empire State Building, Eiffel Tower, Buddha, Las Vegas, Disneyland, and Bible. The Arc de Triumphe might need a victorious army and enable larger armies as well. Edison's Workshop would allow two new techs maybe?
For small wonders, the two extra palaces would be extremely cool. Lessening corruption and allowing you to keep control over your overseas conflicts without too much corruption. Very cool. Holy City? Cool. Supreme Court? Definitely. And have it add a Courthouse to every city on the same continent, maybe? Constitution, also cool. Might need some work, though. Central Bank sounds almost the same as Wall Street, but it shows promise. I like the World News Net (Couldn't the Internet do the same thing?) National Library I love. Sports League is awesome. E-Bank they obviously got from Call to Power II. But then they got a lot of these from Call to Power II.
All in all, if they ever made an expansion with even one or two of these and decent images in the City View screen, well, hell yeah, I'd buy it. They need to change the Internet one in the real game, though. But that's me, going on and on and on, so I'll just end it there.

I've mentioned these ideas before, but...

In my mod Elephants are a strategic resource required to build War Elephants, which are now available earlier and not restricted to India. To make use of elephants there are following Small Wonders:

National Zoo - requires Horses and Elephants - adds tax, science and luxury income
Safari Park - requires Ecology and Elephants within city radius - adds tax, science and luxuries, and decreases pollution

You can then have a spaceship part called The Ark which can only be built in the city where you have a National Zoo.

Right now I got a cool idea of an early Small Wonder that allows air trade, so that two civs can trade without roads or sea routes. Gotta test it.
The difference between industrial society and information society:
In an industrial society you take a shower when you have come home from work.
In an information society you take a shower before leaving for work.

Instead of small wonders that allow air trade, I'm trying to link a great wonder to each luxury resource. Silk has the Silk Route, Wines has the Champagne District, Furs has the Hudson Bay Company and so on. Each of them allows trade with each other civ that has a similar wonder.

Ive renamed Wall Street to Central Bank.

Wouldn't it be a small wonder for each special resource?

No, then they would be too easy to build, and most civs would get the advantage to trade without trade route.

How do you get it work, that a Civ could trade with a civ which has a similar wonder ?

Transcontinental Railroad for a small wonder? Or maybe the Olympics? I think that the Olympics could be included in Civ3, at least in the twentieth century. Like every four years one of the five greatest cities gets the Olympics, and a Golden Age for that city for the next few turns. If the Greatest City title does not change hands, then the second-greatest would get a turn, then the third, and so forth until the first city gets it again.
