Well, it seems that I won't be able to read the book for quite a while. It hasn't been published in Canada yet

So, I'm relying on those of you who have read it for ideas, for the time being.

    Any suggestions?

      try it at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

there might be a cheaper paperback version in another online book-stores in north america, but i don't know which are good and reliable. amazon is: i've ordered a few things already and it came fairly soon, even to europe!

Well, as it turns out, it really is available in Canada. I was told that it wasn't, but the person who told me was referring only to the paperback . However, at the moment I'm not really in the mood to spend money, so I probably won't have this book for at least a month.

Thanks for that link anyway, though. Through it I found two good "So you want to..." articles, one on Kim Stanley Robinson and another on reading science fiction, but skipping all of the junk.

sabrewolf, have you read the book? Would you be able to give any ideas on civilization, placement, or unit additions or changes?

I haven't read the book, so these could all somehow go against what is stated there. But anyway, here are a few suggestions:

Maybe make it start in the 13/1400s instead of 4000 BC?

That's my biggest gripe with it, for some reason... excellent all around... hmm... what else...

              Rename Constantinopole Istanbul?

Perhaps lower the corruption a bit. As Dar-Al-Islam, any of my European cities and all of the cities past Cairo only produced 1 shield/turn w/o Courthouse. I assume the other civs have the same problem.

Maybe add Mongolia to the Golden Horde... even tho' they were all separate Khanates, I believe that there still WAS a khanate out east, in Mongolia. (Or had it fallen apart by then?) Perhaps make 'em another civ.

Mughals were the weakest civ throughout my game so far (except Africa and Aztecs, and at times the Hodenosaunee)... perhaps a few more bonus resources?

Dar-Al-Islam really seems to dominate in the West. Perhaps take away one of those extra settlers in Europe in the beginning? Or give some to the Ottomans and the Horde.

I thought the Native Africans were very well done. In fighting and eventually annihilating them, I heartily enjoyed the way their cities were set up. Most very small, but all with massive amounts of culture. I also enjoyed the way their military was set up-almost all (well, all... no almost) their army consisted of Impis and archers, and, even though they were weak, it was still a pain to meet them in the field. Cities, though, fell in all of 2 seconds. :P
If the Impi were given an attack point or another defense point, the Africans might actually have had a chance. :P

Oh, one last thing: as soon as the scenario begins, Riyadh and the other Arabian desert cities starve down to size 2, where they stay until the age of rail. Either add more food to desert or make the cities START at size 2...

That's all! GREAT Mod overall. Though, I must say, I kinda feel sorry for the Europeans...

Yet another "one last thing:" If the editor allows it, add ruins throughout Europe where major cities used to be. After all, just because all of Europe is dead doesn't mean that the cities just disappeared! (In the same way, you could add roads and irrigation and the like, but I think that would make recolonization too easy)

Hey, nice ideas, DL. I'm not sure about the date either, but once I get the book I'm going to make sure that the date is set proper.

One reason a lot of the changes that could be done haven't been is that the scenario was originally made with the 1.29f editor. As soon as I got PtW, I couldn't help but fix up ixnay's scenario with the new PtW options and additions. (eg, Golden Horde used to be Russia, Arabia was Babylon, and Ottoman's were Greece).

I have a currently unreleased version with the fixed city name (it seemed the AI would build Istanbul, so there would be double cities ). As well, I've redone the Aztecs and turned them into the Inca, and fixed up city placement.

I'm also working on some units that were mentioned in the book, though as I don't have it I can't be sure of the accuracy.

Right now I'm working on fixing the placement of the other civs, and hope to at least release a version 1.2. Once I get the new units completed, I'll release version 2.0.

It was a truly awesome book. Hard to get at times, but still good.
