There is a lot of discussion about a UU to an eventually Brazilian civilization at some forums here in Brazil.
Some people think an enhanced explorer, simulating the “bandeirante”, whose have been responsible for the rapid expansion of Brazil’s boundaries, will be a good choice. Maybe an explorer that can settle cities and treaty all type of terrain as roads.
I heard once that a Brazil UU would to be from period of Paraguay War, where Brazil’s armed forces was tested to the maximum defending the homeland against the Paraguay invasion. I think the main Brazil military force there was the Rifleman and, in reduced numbers, Cavalry. But I think the best in this case will be a Rifleman with an increased attack.
Another good choice would be a modified infantry unit, which can be the “expedicionario” that have fought for us in WWII.

The problem with the “bandeirante” is that some people thinks he only had existed directly by the Portuguese, so they wouldn’t a truly Brazilian UU.
The “expedicionario” would be a good UU, but if I have to make a choice of one of the three, I think I’ll choose the modified Rifleman. They represent a period in history where Brazil was the most powerful regional military power, which had pushed the entire Paraguay military force (that time they was one of the finest in the world) back to their country and have occupied it for a lot of years.

    Hope I had helped.

So many interesting possibilities - thanks. BTW have you checked out the civilopedia entry I made for Brazil?

        Yep.
Very good description of Brazil's history from period of Napoleonic Wars to the 1930 Revolution, promoted by Getulio Vargas.
BTW, I don't had saw any description about the Paraguay War. This war have a lot of influence, throwing down de Dom Pedro II Monarchy and instituting the Republic, wich later will be deposed by the military cup done by Vagas itself.
If you want, I can make some entry.
Of course, you'll need to revise, cause my english is not that good...

Oh yes, you are quite right. The original text that I had set for this was about 3000 words more than the program would allow for and unfortunately what you got was all I was allowed to give out under the program. If you could come up with a suitable file that would more accurately describe the Brazilian Civilization within the current file constraints I would be delighted to use it. We are only allowed the two screens, size unchanging to describe anything.

              problem

the scenario looks awesome. but it keeps freezing after i finish my first turn as, soon as the English go after i am done, it freezes, any suggestions?

It probably is not frozen; the first turn takes a long time. Your turn probably took at least 15 minutes, right? The AI has to do that 14 times. At best you discovered 5 civs on your turn, while 13 AI civs are going to discover each other on the AI turn, maps are exchanged, techs, etc. It also has to give build orders, unit orders, etc. Give the AI about a half hour to take that first turn, after that the speed will really pick up.

Did you load from the save file or the bic? How much RAM do you have? 128 MB or less an this scenario will probably leave you dead in the water. If you want, we can try this: Load the game play your first turn, but do not end the turn. Save the game, post it here and I will see if I can get it to play itself through to the next turn. I would give you a save after my first turn, but we probably have a different style of play (you might not like what I have your units do) and I have an advantage on this map having played it 5 or 6 times that you might not want to exploit.

yeah, i know i have enough RAM, and it froze with both versions, perhaps I'll try again or try loading it on here.

Yes. Always when I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, Windows tells me that the game doesn't respond. But if I let it run, and wait... and wait... and waaaait, the AI turn comes to an regular end sooner or later and I can go on playing. So Ctrl-Alt-Del is the REASON why the game locks up... maybe you got the same problem...

OK, how about a save file? I can’t tell what (if anything) is wrong without viewing what is happening in your game.

The first turn is long, in the middle it runs smooth and relatively quick, the last few turns are usually: human – about 4-6 hrs, computer (AI) 30-90 min, but that is because of the world war. I’ve won this one on cultural, domination, diplomacy and space race, the last turn takes about 8-9 hrs to play (7.5 hrs for me the rest for the AI.) As stated this is a fully developed scenario. The only difference between this, and other huge map scenarios is this one starts in the late industrial era and not the Stone Age and units can cross the map before your hair turns gray if they weren’t gray already from getting to this point in time. Huge map scenarios are notorious for being slow, this one builds everything for you and allows you to skip the early BS and get right into the meat of the game. Personally, I believe the longer it takes for the AI to play “Its” turn, the better I have played mine. Don’t expect any turn in this scenario to last less then one half hour, unless you plan to lose.

Well, for me it has been saying 'Configuring Scenario' for the past hour... Time to hit ctrl-alt-del...
"For it must be noted, that men must either be caressed or else annihilated; they will revenge themselves for small injuries, but cannot do so for great ones; the injury therefore that we do to a man must be such that we need not fear his vengeance." - Niccolo Machiavelli
