Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Looks good ... except, NVA were armed with AK's (a Marine with that hat would make a great Vietcong heh - the Chinese supplied NVA with good helmets).
Historical accuracy-wise this would make an excellent Viet Minh soldier (from the Vietnamese independence war against France), since back then Vietnamese were armed with whatever rifles they could get, and that usually ment bolt-actions (like the one this guy is armed with).
Of course, that only matters if someone is making a very detailed Vietnam War mod.
Great work!

Blah!
Believe me, I got my head bit off while I was making this unit in the OTHER civ forum. You can read the mauling in the preview thread. I put all of the historical accuracy aside for 2 reasons. I wanted it to be flexible, for example it can be used as a Viet Minh soldier like you said or a Chinese Infantry. Also, I just wanted to get it done. Besides, it's not like the Legionary from the game is accurate.
Thanks for the compliments! I'm surprised at how many people actually use this unit. I figured it would be my least successful.
I'm actually contimplating making the Viet Cong using the Marines graphic.
I'll have to ask Crist2000 if I can change the Mortar unit to have the straw hat. In my mod instead of getting Artillery, the Vietnamese could get that as a flavor unit. Why the hell not? It would make it more interesting to play as perhaps the most powerful civ in the mod.
Here's a preview of Viet Cong. I made the green into black, but kept the civ-specific colors. I don't like it when units don't have civ-specific colors, especially ones with a wide variety of uses.
