MOD: WW2 Mod, Including Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, new Units etc...
I like most of what you have done GreyFox but there are many problems with this build of the mod, specifically the game crashes when many different types of units are built because the art isn't setup properly.
The next problem is one that people have already mentioned, the lack of accuracy with some units (the Hellcat tank and Thunderbolt tank).
There is also a question as to the tech tree. You get helicopters in the first (I think) era but tanks don't come until the very ending era. This obviously is inaccurate since helicopters were never used during WWII.
Overall, good effort but if I didn't know how to fix the bugs I couldn't have even played it.
The Panther and Tiger tanks were indeed superb weapons, but they suffered from technical problems resulted from falty design to the need to adapt them to mass production at a time when german production plants were being bombed out, not to mention shortages of specialized workers and components. This resulted eventualy in poor battle performance. In the end, american tank designs such as the M-10 tank destroyer meant that the allies were begining to have a match against german tanks, not to mention the soviet efforts.
Yep the German tanks suffered from mechanical faults, especially being badly underpowered but both those you mentioned still had a huge impact, the Tiger especially caused a BIG rethink in allied tactics.
Well the MOD is not complete yet and if you have read the CFC thread we are in a Stage were we are organizing the Team and starting up groups and sub-groups of certain assignments, to make the best MOD out there that will really reflect the War period with several maps and maybe even a scenario or two.
There will also be alot of new unit graphics too.
Why I released this version of the MOD was to create a Discussion that would HELP me completing the MOD. As we are a TEAM now and we are currently in the buildup stage of the organization (and still recruiting, we need many ambitious men and women that would consider dedicating some of their spare time on improving and finalizing the next Version).
Read the first post of the 9th page on the CivFanatics Thread about the Organization of the Team and what possible postions that is available.
A minor point... I think that "communistic" is not a word and you should change the adjective to communist. Also in this vein, why not use "Imperial Japan" instead of "Empire of Japan". Just some suggestions for consistancy.
Not sure if any more progress is being made on this or not, but I thought I'd throw some things in anyways.
The Soviet T34 tank actually had less armor than the previous KV series. The T34's main advantage was it's new high-velocity 76mm gun, and it's speed, both of which were great improvements over the KV series.
As far as the German tanks, I'm not sure which models are still in (only read the first page), but I think that the proper order should be: Pz Kpfw III model G or F at the start, then the Tiger (which was fairly slow, but very heavily armored... one of the most heavily armored tanks in the middle period of the war, along with having a very powerful gun), and then maybe the Panther (which was very fast, but had slightly less armor than the Tiger, but a higher velocity gun so it was more effective). Then again, if you wanted to progress beyond the scope of the Panther, then you could replace the Tiger with the Tiger II, which was simply slower, had a higher velocity gun, and much more armor.
For German aircraft, I think the Me-109e and FW-190a are necassary, and if you were to add another one, perhaps the Me-262, though all that many weren't produced, it became the major German aircraft in late 1944 and on.
If you have any other questions (and don't ask the what seems to be think-tank of individuals here), especially about the German aspect of the war, then just ask, I know quite a lot about the era. Thanks, and good luck, hope to see a scenario or two from this.
Oh yeah, Tridotan1, hate to burst your bubble mate but... the Royal Marines came before the Commando units. The marines were the sea-going soldiers of the British Navy from the time of the napoleonic era. They served on the the guns of cruiser class ships and heavier during WW1 as well as in the trenches. During WW2 Churchill envisiged a raider style of combat to harass the Germans on the mainland and to raise morale on the Homefront. BTW the term commando is actually an Afrikaans word (descended from Dutch and German) and refers to a unit organisation as opposed to a soldier. The Commando's of the Boer War (where Churchill served, as a journalist I believe) were battalions of about 200 lightly armed guerrilla style troops, who lived of the land and mounted raids on the British forces. Churchill was so impressed by them he used the name to give to his elite troops who would use a similar style of warfare. Even to this day the South African army still calls its army districts "Kommandos".
And before you tell me that I'm wrong, A: I'm South African and B: I spent 8 years at school being drilled in this stuff (it gets rather boring hearing it year after year I can tell you)
Of all the things I've lost, I think I miss my mind the most.
Hmm.. seems to have great potential. DLing it now.
