  • MOD: Space Race Mod

At last! The space race mod is rebuilt for Civ3 v1.29! Now I have been able to add new techs that help fix the modern age.

    Space Race Mod v4.0
    • Completely reworked the modern age tech tree. I think it makes perfect sense now. Including three new techs - Deep Space Travel, Expert Systems, and Cryonics.
    • Moved the spaceship components to later techs, increased cost of all space ship parts significantly.
    • Moved Tac Nukes to Rocketry. (Important since satelites which give ICBMs is now a prereq for space flight).
    • Changed Americans to commercial/industrious, which is what we are after all. Changed 'Washington' to 'Wasgington D.C.'.
    • Changed Bank and Marketplace to reduce corruption (Banks and Markets can be regulated, besides the game needs more corruption reducing buildings).

Here's pt 2. It contains the pcx file for the science advisor in the modern age, and icons for new techs.

          cool idea

An interesting idea. I'm just jumping over from the General discussions (shameless plug & all...). I think the spacerace ought to be at the end of the tree & harder to build too, espcially since it's useless to research anything else when you can just win the game...

However, a couple of concerns, just IMHO, maybe you can clear them up:

          - Why include unit & civ changes with your space race mod? Wouldn't it be better to just stick with the purpose of the mod? Or, perhaps you'd just like to share the way you're playing right now? Is it possible to separate your mods, or if we download it, do we have to include all your changes? I'm not a mod expert, as you can prob tell... Perhaps you might like to call it a "Modern Age" mod, just an idea .

          - By putting SS parts later & increasing the cost, can we still finish by 2050 for most diff levels?

Good work though . I haven't seen enough done to improve the weakest age in gameplay terms, IMHO.

One more piece from me: doesn't the SS currently stand as a side project? I mean, it takes centuries to build a military or culture & patience to build good relations, but the SS? I think it should take a lot more out of your civ to focus on it (that's why I like boosting the shield cost so we're not building parts/turn). It's good that little civs can still win & I'd hate to see that change though...

Alright, I completely redid this thing - v3.0 style.

Downloading. Seems nice, but I'll have to transfer the changes manually , as I play with own mods, and don't want to lose them. Generally, I have some of the changes there, need only the modern tech tree and SS components part. Will be some damn work.

Does anyone know if there is a way to embed the actual picture of my tech tree in the first post as opposed to linking to the thread in the creation forum? Could a moderator edit a post and add it as an attachment?

Here's a picture of the tech tree. Because a picture is worth 1,000 words (but it still ain't a part number).

                      Hello!

Your mod sounds nice to the builder in me. The new tech tree is nice.

I especially loved... everything except the two changes to civilizations.

The first is from my own point of Civilization: I ONLY want ancient tribes for the sake of it. Personal preferences here of course.

The second is about changes to Civ Abilities:
My opinion is that they are well balanced. Weak abilities usually have relatively strong special units (especially for "America": expansionist = very weak, F-15 = strong special unit as it is the most modern one (arguably)).

Most "modern" civ abilities seem to stem from the past, the early years and foundation of the nations fame in history in question. And according to that, the "American" civilization's abilities are fitting: Moving West to gain Ressources.

If you do not agree, then please do change Germany as well (my country of origin): We are not Militaristic any more... make us beaurocratic for heavens sake!!!

Long post, no work, waiting all the time for nothing to happen is BORING!

                      Cheers!

chiefpaco and Solver said it. Why not just have the new tech tree and more expensive SS parts in this mod? This is what people expect when they read the thread title (at least I did).

Well, great work anyway. I will definitely use your new tech tree.

Just one concern: does the AI still build the spaceship even when it is more expensive?

I tried the mod but the game crashes when it tries to open the Writing Civilopedia entry!

Anybody have an idea why? Did you change anything at all concerning writing?

It'sa problem of addd ing techs. For each tech you add you can use one less icon.

Thanks, Gramphos. I changed the Writing icon to the same Philosophy uses, and now it doesn´t crash. It also crashed on Warrior Code, so the icon for that has to be removed, too.
