  • MOD: All advantages for everyone!!!!!!!

I like playiing where everyone starts out equal, so i like playing without civ specific advantages...however, as you may know, the game goes VERY slowly at the beginning without them. My solution: give everyone all of the advantages. Everyone has all six advantages and can build all of the UUs, but the UUs no longer trigger golden ages. Also, there still is one difference, and that is the starting techs....i wasnt sure which ones everyone should have so i left them alone...please give me feedback!

Update! Version 1.1 is out, fixing a bug that made it so that only 1 of the UUs could be built if there were more than one replacing 1 normal unit (for example legionary/immortal (only immortal could be built in version 1.0))

Wouldn't world-wide access to all UU's make them lose their point?

Also I recall that the game only acknowledges two civ attributes and that it's set in stone when you start a new game, but I may very well be wrong.´

I'm sorry but I can't help feel that you've taken away some depth from the game with your mod.

i never liked the idea of UUs and the advantages...but you have have advantages if you dont want a slow, boring start. Also, i've found that being able to build all the UUs leads to a very interesting strategy and to which you should build.

PS: the advantages thing does work...at least im pretty sure it does. SO far in my test game at least it seems it does......maybe in the unpatched version it doesnt...

            Interesting mod.

I also hate the idea of unique hard-coded attributes. Civs should develop their attributes because of the way you play, not some freakish genetic pizpaz. It should be that you gain benefits by allocating "culture/other points" over time - similar to the way you decide which wonders are worth building according to your game style (miltiaristic vs. culture vs. production vs. happiness).

I usually play with Civ specific OFF, but that does make it slower. I dislike the idea of UU's tied to certain civs only. Fine for RTS, lame for TBS. (I'd say go play AoK! but lots of the people on these forums really like the UU and Civ specific attributes...)

Still, I like your idea. Having more units does add variety and UU's is the simplest way to do so.

The thing is, with UU's, why would you build "regular" units then? ex. Egyptian war chariot is equal to horseman but 10 shields cheaper. Can you mod it so horseman regains some value?

There is a difference...War chariots are wheeled, and horsemen arent...but remember mounted warriors would trump horsemen ...Also, I found that when there are more than one replacements for a unit, only one can be built. I think this is becaause of something in the 1.17 patch that lets you upgrade to special units...ill remove that ability, so that you WILL end up with the weaker normal units when you upgrade....I'll try to add that tonight...

there is no reason to build the normal units, you can only get them from upgrades, or hopefully that will happen when I edit it tonight...

Yes, but war chariots doesn't replace the Horseman, they replace the chariot It's an easy mistake, I've only seen the chariot once in all my months of playing Civ3. By the time a civ get a connection to horses they'll usually already know Horseback Riding... and to make it even more silly, if you spot a Horse, you'll very likely research HR asap to get the Horseman unit. Not that I mind, the chariot has so bad animations.

new version 1.1 is out and should make it work as intended...all UUs that upgrade upgrade to the same thing as the regular unit does...you cannot upgrade to a UU

I understand what you're saying but maybe my question wasn't that clear.

I see how horsemen have advantage of not being wheeled, but is that worth the extra 10 shields to build? I guess it would if you had mountains or jungles to cross.

But how about something like Impi? I mean, why would someone build a spearman (1/2/1) when they can build an Impi (1/2/2) for the same 20 shields? Wouldn't that just make spearmen useless?

Did you change any of the stats so that every unit is useful?

Yes they are useless, but thats the way it is always only now it isn't just 1 unit that's useless...I might make it so that no one can build normal units that have replacements...

                              Question:

If everyone has everything, then what is the point of having anything? What kind of socialist attempt is this on Civ3?
                              Also:
As far as I know, the game will recognize other attributes but will only list two.
Est-ce que tu as vu une baleine avec un queue taché?
If you don't feel the slightist bit joyful seeing the Iraqis dancing in the street, then you are lost to the radical left. If you don't feel the slightest bit bad that we had to use force to do this, then you are lost to the radical right.
