I think that would be a good idea. You can also try CGN (www.civgaming.net), they are really fast with minimal traffic. I like the layout (same as here), but they are really quick.

...these files have all* been placed at Civ Fanatics
Warning: The file order has been changed, darkRail15 is posted at the top, followed by the original style, then darkRail25. Its fairly obvious which is which, but thought Id better mention the change to aviod any confusion
* Actually, Im still uploading the other 2, but they will be up very soonI'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I'm no longer having problems downloading files here at Apolyton, so I'd imagine all else should be problem free, as well. However, I still have to rename the file to a .zip from an attachment, but it works fine now once you do that. Whereas before even if you did that it wouldn't work properly.
Also, Skanky, you did a great job on these rails, and I appreciate the work you've done on them, as well as the work you did on your version of the resource images. However, it is difficult to believe that 2 times 2 does not equal 4; does that make it true? On the other hand, is it really so difficult simply to accept everything that one has been brought up on and that has gradually struck deep roots – what is considered truth in the circle of moreover, really comforts and elevates man? Is that more difficult than to strike new paths, fighting the habitual, experiencing the insecurity of independence and the frequent wavering of one’s feelings and even one’s conscience, proceeding often without any consolation, but ever with the eternal goal of the true, the beautiful, and the good? - F.N.

Hey, skanky!
Here's the version of civ2-style railways I was working before you beat me to it. I was going to post it in a different thread, but I suppose it would be most logical to place it in here (check below for screenshots).
Download the file, unzip the file and place it in the art/terrain/ subdirectory (remembering to back up the original first!)
**UPDATE**
Sorry to those concerned, but the file posted up to now was the wrong version. Here's the one represented by the screenshot.Attached FilesLast edited by soufie77; February 11, 2002, 07:51.
