  • MOD: Hetairoi's Pathetic Mod

Here's my (pathetic, I know) first mod. Any critics or suggestion are welcome. Actually this is the first thing I have ever made for any game...

After all the troubles I had with the first mod I started from scrath. Hope it works out better now...

    NEWEST VERSION: 0.2

    *Version 0.2

Changed the Mongol leader's title from Warlord to Genghis Khan (Universal King).
Changed the Mongol leader's name from Genghis Khan to Temüjin.
Changed the graphics for the Mounted Archer from original Firaxis Horseman graphics to Horse Archer graphics made by Apolyton member Kryten.
Changed the name of "Horseback Riding" to "Mounted Tactics" so that making the "Elephant" strategic resource with this tech doesn't seem so wierd to get elephants when you learn to ride horses (since horses are afraid of elephants...).

    *Version 0.1

    Changes:

*Ivory (luxury) has been replaced with Elephants (strategic res.) using the same graphic. (See below)
*Scientists and Taxmen (specialists) now add 4 (NOT 1) to science and income respectively.
*The War Elephant is now a unit everybody can build. The Ghurkha is now the Indian UU. (See below)
*The Iroquois have been replaced with the Mongols. (See below)

    Additions:

    Elephants (strategic res.):
    Appearance Ratio: 110
    Prerequisite: Iron Working
Disappearance Probability: 0 (same as Horses)

Effect: +50% production and +50% income in the city and +1 culture per turn.
    Upkeep: 3 gold per turn
    Other Characteristics: Commercial/Industrious

    War Elephant (unit):
Icon: 60 (same as the old Indian UU)
    Prerequisite: Iron Working
    Stats (A.D.M): 4.1.2
    Cost: 60 shields
    Resource requirements: Iron and Elephants
    Upgrades to: Knight

    Ghurkha (Indian UU):
    Icon: 16 (same as Rifleman)

Just one comment: it might have been better if you had changed the Iroquois instead of Chinese to Mongols.

          hetairoi,

Don't set any civilization to Build Never. They take that quite literally. AI civs do not do error checking to see if your setting is good strategically or not, they just follow it blindly. Setting the Mongols to Build Never: Culture means you will not see any temples, cathedrals, colosseums, libraries, universities, wonders, or anything of the like built by the Mongols, which would make them rather pathetic opposition, I should think.

            Ok,

I will add the Chinese instead of the Iroqouis, and remove everything under "Never Build..."

            Thanx for your comments.

            EDIT: Done!

Under Version 0.12/Bugs you can see a pretty bad bug. That was because I had typed the address to the leader animations (Iroguois) wrong. I fixed that and it worked, but other bugs appeared, like the advisors faces suddenly started showing up, the choices on the build menu disappeared and the control buttons in the upper left corner of the main map also vanished. Anyone know what's wrong?

Aah, great to see my ideas of Elephants and Gurkhas implemented!

But perhaps Elephants should come earlier and have other stats - I thought of Iron working and 4/1/1.

                Good luck fixing those bugs!

I strongly object to the gurkhas being the INDIAN UU... thats absurd

the gurkhas are mercenaries from NEPAL... there are Gurkha units in the british and indian armies... not to mention in Nepal itself. Plus they have a mercenary record for serving a number of other governments.

I strongly suggest you change it

I agree the Indian UU of War Elephant was fine but it needs better stats.

Well, it would take long before an expansin pack comes out with a Nepalese civ. Nepal has enough in common with India to be considered the same civilization on a large scale.

Compare Russians and Cossacks - the Cossacks regarded themselves as their own nation.

Like in this mod, the War Elephant should appear early in the game - there were not many War Elephants during the ages of Chivalry.

I know the Ghurka as an Indian UU is not optimal, but is the only thing I could find (apart from the War Elephant which I wanted to be available to all). I would very much like some ideas!

Gengis khan is not a name ,its a title. It means Great king. The man's name was Temujin.
"Military training has three purposes: 1)To save ourselves from becoming subjects to others, 2)to win for our own city a possition of leadership, exercised for the benefit of others and 3)to exercise the rule of a master over those who deserve to be treated as slaves."-Aristotle, The Politics, Book VII

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the Mongols change his name to Genghis Khan in 1183?
