Anyone come across a good, either late 20th century or 10th century resource map site? I've got a great map all set up but need to find some good spot to gain resource information other than just placing them randomly from what I think I know about the world... thanks.

Try:
It covers some of the resources. It's what I used for part of my map. It has Gems and Radioactive material (Uranium). Look for a map entitled World Resource Map. It appears twice, but you must choose the first one. It has the colour guide for resources. An Atlas I have had a map for Iron, Bauxite (Aluminum), Oil and Coal. I'd suggest finding a good atlas if you can.
Not a perfect suggestion but I hope it helps."It is not given to man to know what is right and what is wrong. Men always did and always will err and in nothing more than in what they consider right and wrong."

Actually it will work nicely Selanne... I've started a new project which I hope to finish in mid december which will include a full range of terrains on a bmp with resource locations large and small throughout the world... the map should serve as the main map for future realistic earth maps... this project is similar to my ctp2 one but I made the mistake of cutting back the terrain types. This time I will not make the same mistake... civ3 has more potential for terrains and such than ctp2 and I will make good use of this chance... if anyone has any base maps they'd like without resources I'm willing to make them since I've completed the transformation of my ctp2 bmp to civ3 standards.... but that is only the beginning... firaxis will want to hire me after this just to do maps for themor so I can hope :P

Hi,
You should check out my website:
http://apolyton.net/haven/
Its all about providing maps with resource locations and similar things, for all of history. Let me know what you think - I'm always looking for feedback.

Beautiful sight Harlan. You are my god.
How do you interpret the difference between Grasslands and Prairie?"It is not given to man to know what is right and what is wrong. Men always did and always will err and in nothing more than in what they consider right and wrong."

Thanks Selanne.
The difference between Grasslands and Plains/ Prairie to me is soil fertility. A city on Plains should't be able to grow as big or as fast. In a perfect world, I'd also always want a Steppe / Savannah / Semi-desert terrain type between Plains and Desert that would be even less fertile.

Hey Harlan...
Well I checked out your site before any of this searching began... what your site has is good individual maps, what I would be looking for is a group of maps which I could overlay. I know that very few maps have this ability, but if they are similar projections at similar resolution then it would work. I love the maps you have especially if you are looking for a historical prespective but doesn't do much for a modern full field map.
And I totally agree about the grasslands and prairies, the goal of my new project is to hope that someone will be able to add the terrains in between grassland and prairies but I'm not holding my breath too long

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/maps is always a good start. It doesn´t have much on resources though, only mineral resources. (Look under World Themes>Physical)
Here are a few more map links: http://gene.wins.uva.nl/~jvermeir/civ2mm/links.htm
You don´t have to bother looking at anything else of that site (which happens to be mine). It´s a "test version" of a site I´m still working on, so it doesn´t contain anything yet.
I guess you probably know most of these links already, and none of them are directly related to resouces... oh well.

Just received a wonderful email... thanks Paul...
Anyway, the point is that I want to post these resource links but I can't yet. Looking through the threads I noticed that you're asking for resource maps so here you go, I've just scanned them tonight. Hope you find them useful.
Note that the vegetation shown on the above maps is current vegetation, not the original vegetation. The map below shows the world's natural vegetation, ideal for a realistic starting world before any of the forests had been chopped down. Good for showing the main mountain ranges too.
