  • An important warning on adding new Technologys

I've tried both the civ3copytool and the hacked editor to the same result. This one is really weird, and I have no idea what causes it.

If you add a technology it will work just fine, but with one problem. If you right-click Writing or in any way try to view it's Civilopedia entry, the game will crash and will need to be rebooting before playing again. If you try and play again without rebooting it may cause a hard-freeze so you have to Reset your computer.

The odd thing is...it doesn't matter if you change writing or not. I added Ship Building as a tech and all the other techs I viewed worked just fine, though it seems the graphics in the civilopedia can get screwy and mixed up. But the game works fine.

But the only problem comes with Writing. I don't know why, but even if you haven't changed writing, the advance doesn't touch or require writing in any way, and you've ensured that you didn't change the civilopedia in a way that alters writing...it still happens.

For anyone who has the hacked editor, try playing with this and see if it happens to you also and that it's not just something I accidentally did.

The new tech that's added, however, works perfectly regardless. Good news and bad news, I guess

My guess is Writing is the last civilopedia entry (alphabetically). And the civilopedia in some way uses indexes, so that if you add a technology, writing will "fall off" or something. I´m merely guessing though. Does the same thing happen to the technology before Writing (alphabetically) if you add 2 technologies?

Actually, that seems like a really good guess. Someone said they had a problem with adding a unit and the game crashing when Warriors should appear.

I get the feeling that this is the problem. However I have no idea how the game uses indexes, and I certainly don't find any mention in the civilopedia.

I'm betting this is part of the reason they killed the add/delete buttons in the editor

Unfortunately, my guess doesn´t get us any further.
Just waiting for the patch again.
