I read at the www.civ3.com that it would be possible to make 256*256 maps? ... how can I do that? Cause now they are just as u might know, 180*180 ... and 256 would be wery much bigger...

First thing, back up your civ3mod.bic file, found in the same directory as the Civ3 exe. Then, open up civ3mod.bic with the editor, go to the Rules. Tab over to World Sizes (on the far right), select Huge from the dropdown menu, and change the width and height to whatever sizes you want.

One very important note (especially for those familiar with Civ2)...
The width of Civ3 maps is calculated differently from the width in Civ2.
Here´s an example of the X coordinates in Civ2:

0 1 2 3 4

And the same thing in Civ3:
0 2 4 6 8
1 3 5 7 9
0 2 4 6 8
In other words, a Civ3 map that´s 256 wide is actually only 128 wide (in Civ2 terms). Keeping to the Civ2 naming, the maximum width is 128, the maximum height (calculated the same in Civ2 and Civ3) is 256 and the maximum surface thus 32,768...
Not only that, I´ve already tried hexediting the mapsize, to have dimensions larger than 256, but it doesn´t work. It simply reverts back to these maxima.
Now let´s have a look at the Civ2 maps. Before Civ2 multiplayer, a map could be as large as 10,000, dimensions could be as large as 250. But these values could be edited, making a true maximum surface at 10,922 and virtually limitless dimensions.
In Civ2 multiplayer and test of time, the maximum surface could be adjusted up to 32,767 squares. The dimensions still were virtually limitless.
Conclusion:
- Civ3 maps can be a whopping 1 square larger than the largest possible Civ2 map.
- The map width can only about half as the official Civ2 max (128 in stead of 250).
- The height can be slightly larger than in Civ2 (256 in stead of 250), but in Civ2 you could go beyond this maximum.
And they said Civ3 maps could be 6 times larger than in Civ2!!
