  • FIXED: Inability to run game AT ALL and other tech tips

Check these out, taken from the "can't run game but can run editor" thread:

    PROBLEM:
When i run the game i get the title screen then the program quits.
I start the game, it gets to the title screen (I think) and hangs.
    SOLUTION:
    Head on over to http://www.gamecopyworld.com/
[and look for the fixed Civ3.exe file]
then go to http://www.winace.com/mirror.html to download a file that can UNZIP this .exe file. REPLACE the Civ3.exe file in the root directory (I renamed the original so that I didn't destroy it).
This will bypass the game searching for the CD (copy protection?) and it ran on my computer that a 25 minute PAID FOR phone call to tech support couldn't fix.
I'M ALL ABOUT ETHICS, PLEASE DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A LEGITIMATE, LEGALLY OWNED COPY OF THE GAME AND CAN'T RUN IT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

    Some other helpful tips:
IF YOU NEED TO BYPASS THE INTRO MOVIE, GO TO:
    civ3/art/movies and RENAME intro.blk to intro.old.
The game can't see it so it skips it.

In the CIV3.INI file, you can TURN ALL SOUND OFF BEFORE THE GAME LOADS
TYPE IN THIS TEXT FILE, right after the opening brackets (case sensitive). Be sure it gets it's own line, and DON'T include the parenthesis.

    "NoSound=1"
And to think, if I had been patient I could have saved $30 by simply watching the Apolyton site.

Hope this helps, and thanks to DarthRosie, I can play!!!

Cool beans! I was wondering if there was an INI flag or something that would cut out the intro movie.
