    sn00py and others,
Glad people are working on changing terrain graphics.

Here are a few things I hope someone will change soon:

    1. The crappy "chicken scratch" irrigation graphic.

    2. Pimple mountain majesties. Every mountain on earth isn't steeper than the Matterhorn.

    3. Forested hills. The game appears to have them, but they're not done well. They look like squares that have forest on half and empty hill on the other half, rather than forest on top of the hill.

Other than that, the Civ3 graphics look pretty good. However, there are some extra terrain types I'd like to see (most inspired by CTP):

    1. Desert Hill
    2. Desert Mountain
    3. Alpine Hill
    4. Alpine Mountain (snow on both - snowy forest on top would be nice bonus when they have forest. Alpine Mountain also being really high for Tibet and so forth)
    5. Dune (serious, impassable desert)
    6. Mediterranean forest
    7. Taiga forest (in addition to the currect coniferous type the game apparently has)
    8. Steppe (between Plains and Desert)

    Any others?

"I would also like to see mountains of various elevations"

That's what I was trying to get at with Alpine Mountain. Those would be the really high mountains. Alpine Hill on the other hand would just be hills so far to the poles that they're always or almost always covered in snow.

hey Harlan, most of what you have said there, I've done, but I can't really do anything until I see to actually edit the terrain within the game, right now I am just playing around with stuff.

But I can certainly say, that I will be changing the irrigation, forests, sea-like deserts, etc.

Nemo: I am not looking for anyone who can do graphics, coz the graphics have to remain to look the same (all artists are different).

Alex: hehe, that can be made in photoshop 6, trust me! =o)

I did this mountain today aswell, it's the first one I did, it's not what I am looking for, I am looking for something that appears much higher, but is it ok?

did a few more just now, are they good enough?

I'll have to wait and see if I can use these yet.. I really hope I can or find a way..

there are 3 types there (they're just placed on the land to show the proportions)

jungle (on the ocean), desert rock and european mountains

oh btw, that jungle on in the ocean is actually two mountains moved together, I created them seperaly, and decided to place them next to each other to see if they would connect (coz the terrain in the game has got to be able to connect), and whaddya know, it looks great!! same goes for the rest too!

Looks good Snoopy! I am glad someone has finally made mountains that aren't "pasty, pimple shaped" objects!

I miss the mountains in Civ2 or even CtP 1 & 2. At least those mountains made "RANGES" when stacked close together.

                    Hi,
I'm making a great new Strategy game similar to Civ (but totally original and with my own style) and could use some good graphics talents like you Snoop.
I doubt civ3 will be flexible enough for you to place things like island mountains and varied desert mountain graphics.. BUT if you want to help me , anythings possible in terms of graphical richness.
I'm also needing another coder or 2 as well as gfx people, but have a lot of my game working.
I need 2d sprite designs for the resources and buildings, and the landscape props like trees etc.

Mostly the landscape and units are 3d rotating objects, the units are made of an advanced new Voxel 3D system -that i've nearly finished.
Basically I have different planets which you have to colonise and fight starship battles, with a proper plot and characters that interact with each other through a nailbiting gameplay extravaganza

I've got some great new ideas in my game.. like Stealth factors for ground etc units, where commandoes can hide in forests but the enemy can locate them with the appropriate skill and technology(or just hanging around till they see something! )
ALSO cities and regions(like states in a country) have many new things like resource maintenance to support population and only allowing buildings if each cities Technological Rating is high enough (frontier towns start at tech 1, needing to build libraries etc to reach higher techs like the central cities of tech 25 .. )

I see you've been influenced by the great New zealand scenery, I was in NZ for 2 months in Wellington and all around last year - my Fathers a Kiwi too :>

So if you think you have time to help email me at peter@artpac.demon.co.uk
Anyone else can email this add for the first on information about my soon to be released game.

Heres a screenshot of how my landscape code is coming so far:

How about the team Hoek was working on? Can't we just all work in one group, instead of making tonnes of different teams?

Anyway, keep it up! It's lookin great!

I'm loving this!! hehe, I REALLY hope civ3 allows me to do some of this, aiyah.. I really really hope so!

Admiral PJ, that's an interesting proposition....I will have to think about this.. I don't mind doing the graphics of course... (coz I love to do it), but... I want to know that my time spent, is worth spending.. so..I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on your new game

The boy's got talent. I agree that forests and irrigation need improvement.

I'm thinking of making some scenarios based on AH I've read and a short story I'm working one. Here are some examples:

Island in a sea of time series. The island of nantucket is thrown back to 1250 BC. Can it survive? This will be after the first book, and start of 2nd, so you get to see the effect of an ironclad, contact with babylon, and the concept of one unit going against hordes.

World War series: Aliens attack earth during world war II. I'd need an artist to draw the units, since I can't, but I have a good grasp of what happened.

There are a few good others to do, notably agent of byzantium, and the domination series.

I'm mostly interested in the terrain (must be the NZ'er in me), but I will also do units!! and other little things too, not a problem..

I have been thinking of doing scenario's too, graphics made specificaly for the scenario, so like for example, you had maybe.. a bunch of tropical islands and beaches, palm tree's etc.

so yeah, I can definately help you Faeelin, doing alien stuff would be lotsofun!

Forests and irrigation, right, I am going to do that right now, btw, I had done the forests (pine), and it looked GREAT, but I accidently saved over the top of it, LOL, sigh, I will do it again.. =o)

after playing the game several times (in sleepless week-long intervals of course) i will try to make irrigation pretty, or hope someone here did it already.
