hmm. This is a big "it depends" for me. I quite like the way that CivIII has turned out and I am a long way from being done exploring the possibilities it offers.

I'm not sure how CivIV could be "better." If it is - better AI, more interesting unit interactions, then I might drop CivIII.

I still play civ 2, so I will most likley continue to play civ 3 even when civ 4 is out.

civ3 was fun for a while. But I just don't have that much desire to play anymore. I was hoping to play all the scenarios in conquests at least twice. The only ones I've played multiple times are mesopotamia, middle ages, and age of discovery. Probably the 3 best ones as well.

The problem is the gameplay is too simplistic. Sure it helps the AI out, but it makes the game boring after a while. And yes, it all comes down to mining grasslands. We need more options for improving the land. I don't care if it means we have a worse ai. I need something different to do in my games. And I'm tired of all my land looking the same.

I don't play Civ2 anymore. I threw the disks out years ago. There were so many annoyances especially with AI behavior that I was eternally grateful when 3 came out.

            Isn't that Civ3 you're talking about?

No wait, in Civ3 when the other civs starts to hate you there's usually no way to make them like you again
This space is empty... or is it?

He was talking Civ2 alright. Civ3 does not have the gang on the leader "feature".

Also, it is possible to get back to normal (or very close to this state) with an AI in Civ3. The problem is, it takes too much peace, a thing most players... let us say "shun".
              Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

No, it has the attack everybody feature. I've only played very few games where everybody is not at war with at least 75% of all enemies, at some point in the game

It might be possible yes, but I have yet to see this happen

After I built forts in my city radius only to have Elizabeth plunk a city down next door and say "get out of "my" land," I quit it forever.

AIs fight, that is what they do. But it is not always a large part of the game, and can be reduced further by increasing the appearance ratio of resources (AI is programmed to aggressively pick up luxuries and resources it can not trade for). Still, the game does lack the diplomatic option "Sign peace with X, or we provide you what a real war looks like."

I know it is possible, for I have done it. Making some AI my perfect ally after cutting half of it for myself early in the game is quite doable. But it does take many turns of being nice, and at peace. Also, it means no breaking any deals, ever, as that tends to ruin your reputation for good.
