  • Will people play civ3 after civ4 comes out?

Yeah you will point out that the civ2 forums still are active. But Civ2 was a different beast. I think many consider that a better game. Including myself. Though I never play anymore. It just seems too outdated compared to civ3.

Anyone know where I can find info on civ4? (besides here). Actually I just want to know one thing. Can you mine grasslands. I don't know why, but that's always bugged me about civ3. What's really bugged me is it's a winning strategy, and you almost need to do it. It just looks so ugly. I admit, this is why I grew tired of civ3 so fast. I thought about firing up a game today, but the thought of mining grasslands.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing civ3. It was a great game for a while. I'm just wondering how much longer we will continue playing it.

I imagine that if it is good then CivIII will be put away to rest next to CivII by the vast majority.

I expect to leave any (of the remaining few) SP games for good. I will definately try to finish PBEMs, though.

I will not be playing Civ3 anymore (provided Civ4 is really good as people say it's going to be), but I'll definitely keep it on my HD just like I did with Civ2 for a while after Civ3 came out.

There will definitely be someone still playing Civ3 and Civ2 . But if Civ4 is as people hope it would be, there will sure be less Civ2 and Civ4 players around.

Oh and Diss, there's really no other place to find info on Civ4, unless you get to speak to a Firaxian directly .

To be honest, I don't see many Civ2 veterans migrating to Civ4... I mean those really hardcore Civ2 veterans, those who still play it often.

But then, I'd guess they are something like 0.005% of the players, huh?

I will be playing Civ III for quite awhile. I have to admit it is still new to me. I got it when Complete came out. This is also going to cause a fight, but I am not convinced that I want cIV.

I'll have to hear/read the reviews; But it's 3D without a true globe. The religion thing doesn't seem modeled correctly (I know I haven't play).

I played a lot of CivII. I wanted so much of what ended up in Civ III. I love III. The only reason that I didn't run out to buy Civ III the day it was released was - I'm cheap. That is my last reason for not running out to get cIV. I'll wait forthe gold or complete edition. Better yet the $10 copy.

I will be playing Civ III for quite some time.

I'll for sure play Civ3 after Civ4 is released, because my computer is quite... old, and I think it won't run Civ4 that have a 3D engine and other new features that my computer can't use.

Every once in a while, I get the urge to reinstall Civ2. I play half a game, or a full one if I'm ambitious, then I put it away for another few months. I'm getting there with Civ3 as well. If my computer can handle cIV reasonably well, I don't see myself going back to previous versions. Not very often, anyway.

If Civ4 keeps what it promises, Civ3 will bite the dust for me. If not, I will probably leave the whole game genre.

Civ2 is kept alive for two reasons:

                        1) The vast number of scenarios and mods out there.

                        2) You don't need the CD to play it.

I install Civ2 on every machine I have and play it when I can't find my Civ3 CD. Yeah, I could get one of those CD-anywhere things but that'd just be another thing to install and fuss with.

Civ3's obsessive need for its CD will be its death for me when Civ4 comes out.

I use a special patch to take care of that CD problem (and yes I bought all the games and expansions)

I use CD images for all my games. It's really not bad once you know what you're doing. It's just that first step that's a pain

I haven't played Civ3 for over a year, I doubt I'll ever get back to it... I have considered to install Civ2 again, but this kinda depends on what Civ4 turns out to be. If it's good then Civ2 will be history, if not then I might play a "few more turns"... if I can find the CD, I don't remember where I put the CD after I moved

But I sure hope they have gotten rid of the mines in grassland, that was just too ugly... I haven't noticed anything like this in the screenshots, but that wasn't what I was looking at when looking at the screenshots so chances I would notice are slim
