My last game? 3 hours and a half, Diplomatic on Emperor.

I have already put together a Deity (or was it DG, don't really remember) game in less than 2 hours. That was one great pain. But I won!

Diplomatic victory is surely the fastest (along with some 20k). With little or no military, no wars, turns go really fast. All you have to do is decide what to build 2-3 times per turn (but you follow an order) and what to research every 5-10 turns. That's all.

Of course, a single turn in war lasts much longer.

130 hours. No joke. Wasn't even finished. A DyP World Map game, Monarch. Insanely slow tech pace, and Space was the only doable victory - Domination is almost impossible on Kal-El's map (about 20% are nothing but unsettable Tundra), UN was out since everyone hated me, and Conquest would have required to kill about 15 Civs. Oh, and a 700MHz P3 didn't help as well . I went to the next Turkish snack and got myself a Kebab, and when I returned, the interturn was still going on...
Still, that is nothing compared to that giant map SG on CFC, with about 600 hours .

Seriously. It sounds as if the fun factor would be low on this one. Or maybe there is a heightened sense of achievement when you are done?

I know from experience that DyPs can take a long time, however.

38 hrs 28mins & 36 secs. Finally went above 160K on the cultural level. That only took what felt like a lifetime to achieve.

I never finish a civ III game in one setting. Not even a conquest. It takes several settings.

On the cultural global victory, you also have to have 2X culture of closest oppoent, so if your on Huge map and the nearest oppoent has more than 80K culture, you'll need either more than 160K culture or to completly wipe out that civ to win. This is different from single city culture, where close doesn't matter.

Latest now 29 hours 8 minutes something seconds
Rise of Rome as Macedonia on Emperor level.
Took a few extra turns since I was stuck at 19% land area after wiping out both Persia and the Scythians. (Carthage had annexed most of Egypt while I was busy fighting the Persians so I got little from the Egypt indeed. Rome built ToA.) First turn of the war on Gauls which brought in a city with expanded borders pulled me over the 20% limit.

Next up is Age of Discovery as Spain on Emperor.
A couple of extra goals for myself:

                              1. Unify the Iberian penisula under my rule. (Along with northern africa.)

                              2. Conquer the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incans capitals and secure all the gold sources along the Alantic Ocean / Gulf of Mexico / Caribean.

The colonists I get are going to focus primarly on gold [3] and to a lessor extent silver [5], gems [5], and luxaries. Tobacco [8], Spices [10], Furs [20?] just can't compete when it comes to treasure gathering.
