  • How long was your last game?

At about 19 hours and 30 minutes my last game, a domination victory at warlord, felt long. I felt like I should have won the game earlier, but I seemed to have trouble landing the knockout punch. The last couple of Civs put up more of a fight than I expected. When I finally did it was in the early 1900's, about 150 years longer than I thought it would take.

My question is this. How long is it taking you better players to finish a game, and what are some stratagies that you use to land that killer blow?

23 hours on Rise and Rule. Didn't finish it... Takes damn forever.

Didn't sleep for 32 hours, either...
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Check out this game log for a fast finish:

This game is my attempt to get the fastest spaceship launch ever. Here are the settings I decided on. Difficulty Level: Cheiftain I will use the half price techs to get a 4-turn tech rate very, very early. The 4 content citizens and reduced corruption will help me grow fast to keep up...

That is impressive, but he also picked his start location. Also, did he have accelerated production on? In my last game my start location was less than optimal. A little bit of grass lands with a desert and a lot of jungle.

Aprox 24 hours and 30 minutes. Middle Ages as Germany, Emperor level. Won on Victory Points. 1 relic returned + almost all the tech tree including all optional branches + several last era great wonders + wiped out Bulgars, Poland, and Maqyars.
Bryzantine were in second place : aprox 9800 points behind me after I returned the relic.

I recently won a diplomatic victory in 12 hours - huge map, Emperor level but only 3 other civs and I didn't fight a single war.

                24 hrs & counting

Would have been finished but the default cultural victory in C3C is set at 160K. PTW was 100K.

jatf, the empire wide cultural victory condition under C3C depends upon your map. It's still 100K on a standard map. It's only at 160K by default on huge maps.

So that explains it. I'll just have to send some "ambassadors" to visit my neighbours then

Doesn't C3C 1.22 need both total culture level AND a high single city level for the flip?

I just did a huge map and exceeded the 160k with no victory. It was a random start that gave me the Japanese and I conquered and built temples and cathedrals everywhere.

I ended up doing a conquest victory which was less satisfying than culture would have been.

Most recently, 15 hours and 15 minutes. Fall of Rome as Franks, Emperor level. VP victory

W Rome : Fell to Celts
E Rome : Fell to Me
                          Visigoths : Fell to Me
                          Sassidens : Fell to Ortho.
                          Anglo-Saxons: Fell to Me
                          Ortho.: Fell to Huns
Celts: Fell to Me and brought me way over the top.

At that point the Vandals and Huns surrendered.

Dumbest AI move : Celts founding a city while at war with me adjecent to 2 Heavy Calvary + 1 Maruder on the relic just to clear a Silver colony; several more of my units were within range.

No, he did it on Chieftain without AP on. But he carefully chose all the AI civs to be scientific and gifted them into the new era so as to trade for their free techs. Very smart set up indeed. So when he entered each new tech tree instead of having one tech (his free tech) he started it with 8 techs !!
