  • .ini file changes

I just did a fresh install of Civ3 and used the Conquests disc only to install the PtW files. When I go into the .ini file, I can't find the 'NoAIPatrol' line anywhere. Is there an equivalent line, or do we need to install from the PtW disc first in order to get the wandering barbarians?

The line is not there in the Conquests.ini, and PTW does not know about his file, so this would not help. You need to add it manually.
    Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

If you're after wandering barbarians, just leave it as is, the game defaults to AI Patrols. That line was added for people who were getting annoyed at watching the AI moving around all the time.

No, I want them after me. The default for Conquests is NoAIPatrol=1 or on. That means the barbarians don't do anything but attack when units enter their killzone. I'm changing the file so that NoAIPatrol is off, which was only the default prior to Conquests.

I don't recall having to add the line to .ini in my previous install- I thought I just unset the flag. [although Modo is very correct :-]

Why can't I find the "Turn of the Palace improvement" setting from the preferences? After a HD crash, too...
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

I wasn't aware of that. So does having NoAIPatrol=0 fix that problem with the Barbarians only attacking from a SE/NW axis?

Because it doesn't exist. If you want to turn that off simply go into the editor, make some minor change then save it as a scenario. Palace improvement is disabled with all mods/scenarios.

They still respond the same to the axis, but with NoAIPatrol=1, they fortify in place until a target stops on the axis (or a 0A/D unit goes near). With the flag=0, barbarians continuously move, increasing the chance of encountering something on the axis.
