If a size 1 town has culture (expanded borders) you can capture it.

Not sure I understand the second question. If you mean will a city retain its borders after capture, no it won't. It will revert to the borders of a newly founded town.

By default, the retaining cultural of cities is a feature of the Rise of Rome Conquest only. (To make it easier to conquer enough territory to win even if the AI builds ToA on say Crete)

That is a flag in the editor, but it's generally recomended to leave it off for normal games and only turn it on if you design your own scenerio that needs it.

I just found that particular tag in the Editor over this weekend (after some intense editing that I have been doing) and I dont much mind capturing a city with all its influence intact.

In my current game, I got 2 Albert Einstein's in a 10turn interval

I also discovered Military Tradition in 1350AD. Im playing warlord now. Anyway, how can I get to research industrial stuff before 1000AD?

This is so insane. I was going all well, preparing slowly to declare war on the Russians, but they attacked me 20turns before I did. Yes they took me by surprise, but I thought I could use my economic strength and get those bastards.

First of all I took an aliance with all civs on the continent against the Russians.

On the second turn, all my nation went anarchy after I lost 6 cities to the enemy

Now, Im afraid I wont be able to hold the Russian offensive!!!

            Can you help me?

The front is in the north ( about 67degrees north ). On the scene I have little forces I have 6 Crusaders going from the south, and my cavalries on the front lose strength, and due to riots I wont be able to replace them.

Play on a higher level. The AIs will research faster, with the net result, that you're not doing it all yourself, with the built-in 4 turns x Z number of techs limitation.

Posting a save of your war-torn game would be helpful. There are plenty of people here that will be happy to advise you, but you give better advice when you can actually see the field.

Post a save as far back you have before the war.

Try to never let a city riot. It is best to review the cities from F1 to ensure that all is as it should be. IOW you do not have more unhappy citizen than happy ones.

and try not to lose your cities to the AI

that takes a little bit of practice. But I've been able to determine when the AI is going to attack. They have tell-tale signs. When they start movinve more than 1 unit into your territory there's a good chance they are going to attack.

the only exceptions to this rule is if they are escorting a settler, or if this AI nation is at war with another nation on the other side of your borders, and the only way they can get to that nation is through your territory.

but always be on your guard and prepare for war when you see more than 1 AI unit in your territory.

Though it's good to be prepared for war before that happens. Keep some attack units close by all vulnerable cities. Use these units to destory the AI before they attack your cities. The best defense is a good offense.

Border cities need defenders. If in Republic only border cities need defenders (no Military Police - no point wasting upkeep). Try not to defend with offensive units (like Cavalry) - they are much better at attacking. Wait until the enemy come close, and kick him then. When preparing your defense, remember one thing: You need to kill one big wave of attackers, after which they will only come in small groups (the AI makes no reserves). Prepare for it, and you will be safely winning wars..

Attacking first works best. If you have too few units for that, you must have either very weak production, or you are building too many structures over units. If you can, post a save and a zoomed-out screenie, so we can get to the details.

Well yes, most of my production is spend on buildings ( temples, granaries, libraries, unies, etc ). Most of my diffenders are still warriors , cause ive never had the money to upgrade them. The cities on the borders dont have any defences yet, cause I just built them I know my fault, but they were being built. Plus I was polite with everyone, even with the Russians.

Im in a Democracy right now. The first thing ill research in the industrial age will be nationalism and communism.

I think thats the best gov for war. IMO, if I will be able to repulse the Ruskies, then I should be able to get the rest of the continent.

One more thing, their offensive came to a halt after 4 turns , I dont know what to think about this. Is the AI preparing for a full scale invasion, taking into consideration that it was so easy to beat me in the first place, or are their forces just too weak to penetrate my territory? They lost a lot of men on my cavalries

Here is my save when I got my first Scientific Leader, about 23 turns before the war.

                      cheers mates

I cannot open either save. Is your Civ ptched to the latest version (Conquests: 1.22)? Could you post a screenshot?

By the time you get Cavalry, you should have some Muskets on your borders. At least 2-3 per city, and more offensive units, of course. You need to make units throughout the game, to keep safe. Discipline yourself to building one unit after each structure, or make sure some cities are building exclusively units (after Barracks). If your military is weak, even your "friends" will turn on you, as they see you are an easy target.

You are right about Communism - it is usually the best government for warmongering.

Democracy gets into trouble if a war lasts, the AI is more likely to attack a Democracy, and you can be forced into Anarchy. Unless you have a very strong military, or your country is easy to defend, be careful about switching to this government.

The first wave of units was depleted, and they could only send what they were building. Like I said - no reserves. At this point you should be able to attack with success. Just make sure to defend your conquests properly, so that no other AI can hurt you.

I could not load it either with C3C 1.22. This could be that it was an older patch or not even C3C.
