As anybody who's played huge maps knows, Iron Works is the proverbial impossible dream on them. The rare time you do get an IW site, chances are it's off in the boonies somewhere, and the wonder might double your production to two shields. Yippee.

My current game is C3C 1.22, unmodded except for city names, huge, continents, 60% water, 12 total civs. I'm playing the Inca (not a bad civ at all, btw). I discover Steam Power, and don't give IW a second thought (based on past experience, of course). A few turns later, I'm looking at something else and realize that I have an IW site. Even better, it's right in my core. I look around a bit more and I've got another one! Two coal/iron confluences smack dab in my core... and I missed both of them when placing my early cities, of course.

Fortunately, I was able to place Juliaca (3333 from Cuzco) on the closer site. The second one is at the top of the screenshot, to the right of center.

That is a big friggin' Incan empire. Looks like the nighttime lights of the US or Europe from orbit... Lotsa gold to burn... go commy, I'd say (UnO, jump in here ).

As vxma1 woud say: Jump up a level, maybe two.

The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

The bigger tha map, and the higher the difficulty level, the more cash to get. Get a tech lead and slowly sell techs to everyone in the world. That kind of cash is normal this late in the game.

Why garrison cities, when you need no MPs (Republic) and nobody can enter your lands (I assume the border is closed)? There is no reason, really.

Solomwi, must have been a fluke. But hey, it happens every now and then. Have fun with it.

The previous AU game Power of F had two sites, but that was a standard map size.

I hope you are not playing conquest or you will have a lot of work ahead of you.

BTW you should have gotten a msg about being able to build IW. If I get that msg, it usually is hard to find the city that is eligible. Then you discover it is going to take forever and yield very little. Being a core city would be super that is for sure.

T - Communism may have to happen. Of course, I say that every game and it never does . I'm almost to the point of moving up a level or two, but right now I'm perfectly happy being a Monarch slumlord ($1 to Arrian).

Tomasz - What Modo said. It's not uncommon at all on a huge map to have that kind of gold pouring in. In this particular case, I also got a jump on building my army, and have several cities building wealth, simply because they're built out completely and I don't have the need for any more units at the moment. On the garrisons, I have only one border, with Germany, and am currently fighting the Romans, so all my troops are along that border or in Rome. No enemy units are going to sneak behind them, so why garrison my towns deeper into the empire? They aren't going to rebel.

Modo - Exactly, but what a beautiful fluke it was.

v - I'm playing domination, but I'll wind up going well past that point and trying to get conquest as well. Also, I didn't have an eligible city until I noticed the sites and put one down specifically for that purpose. Ergo, no message.

Yep, that's about where I was during my one turn tech hiatus while waiting for the ToE to finish (~2300, IIRC).

T, all that accumulated gold is going to be burned fighting my post-espionage wars fully informed and fomenting war on the other continent later.
