  • V1.29 Gold Rush Bug/Exploit/Spolier

If this thread/post is in the wrong section I have no problems if it gets moved.

I have Civ3 Complete. Was supprized to find this after all the patches that have been made.

I used hurry production (republic gov) to complete a half finished temple. Afterwards I wanted to check and see how much more it would have cost had i rushed a different building. Seeing that it was too much, I went to switch production back to the temple and was warned that switching production would cause a 16 shield waste. So i investigated it a bit further. After reloading, the same thing happened again. I found that when I rushed production, then switched to a more expensive building, there was an extra 16 shileds. This happened each time I tried this. I was able to get 16 free shields each rush build. This resulted in being able to rush complete a Factory for much less by doing it in smaller steps.

Details: 18 shields in the production box.
    Full cost rush:
    Temple: 48 gold
    Colosseum: 408 gold
    Factory: 888 Gold

    Incrementally, up to a factory
    Temple: 48
    Granary: 56
    Courthouse: 16
    Marketplace: 16
    Colosseum: 16
    Hospital: 96
    Factory: 256

    Total: 504

This represented a rush cost savings of 256 gold for a Colosseum, and 384 gold for a factory. And I am sure the factory had the same 16 shield surplus.

This would make rush building your more expensive buildings a lot cheaper, if you had enough buildings unconstructed.

    Save file available.

If this bug is common knowledge, sorry for the thread, let it die.

I was curious if this was due to the city being a captured one. I short-version tested it in two other cities. One city, rushing a harbor the surplus was only 10 shields. And another rushing a cathedral I did not get any surplus. So unsure what drives the bug, or the amount of surplus.

I am not aware of such bug in Civ3 1.29f ("1.29" implies Civ3 without expansions), what you describe exists in C3C 1.22 (Conquest). It happens if civil engeneers were used, these extra shileds generated for every rush/switch cycle. Number of extra shields equals turns before rush multiplied by number of civil engeneers x2 (civil engeneer produces 2 shields).

Are you sure that you are playing Civ3 1.29f and not C3C 1.22?

I have Civ3 complete, when I save a game it is filed under the conquests folder. When you launch the game, your options are "new game", "Conquests" and "Civ-Content". Conquests and Civ-Content have scenarios. The game I found this bug in was from a "new game" selection. (random map, ect...).

Yes, I had been using civil engineers the turn before (the city had resistors in it), but on the turn the bug was realised the only specialistis used were entertainers as the resistance had ended. Not 100% sure at which point I changed them. But I believe that holds true with my second post regarding the other two cities I tested it with.

I got the version # 1.29f from the readme file in the civ3 complete folder. I was not able to find any specific version number "in-game". Go figure.

I am/was under the impression that the conquests expansion is a number of scenarios, and not a free-form start version.

Also, I am not using any mods.

The readme under the conquests folder where the saves are found is indeed 1.22

And to think i waited all this time for a "complete" version so as to avoid this kind of confusion (and bugs).

great, now I have to figure out which one of the "complete" version i want to play. guess one just can't believe the desktop shortcut the installer made.

Conquest or C3C is stand alone in the respect that it has unique aspects, built on the prior versions. It requires you have the vanilla version install though.

The scenarios are just a bonus. Scenarios came with all three versions and some were just updated as the new versions came out.

Yeah, I went back hunting the folder and made a shortcut for the Civ3 version (non-conquests launch).

Wonder if this is the explore part of the 4x.

The point of bug is not that civi engeneer is present, but that it was used and generated some shields for this building.

It looks like you indeed playing C3C (Conquest)

lol, I reloaded the save and built the temple. No need to build a factory in that city. I just was not sure if anyone had noticed this yet. I tried to locate it in the the bugs threads before posting, but gave up after a bit and after noticing the thread start dates, versions, ect. i thought i was playing 129f.

Sorry about the little rant. I was tired. Conquests is clearly the better version.

                Thx all
