Ya. I hope that when they do Civ4, the strat guide is something actually worth looking at.

I think it will be a better game the less obvious the mechanical workings are. Civ3 SP has lost it's appeal to me because it now seems more like a process of solving a bunch of equations than what used to be 'playing' Civ...

After a check of the editor, I can safely report that it's simply the discovery of Sanitation that disables disease from floodplains.

So does anyone ever use the F11 screen? I mean, what's it good for?

Myself, I'm only interested in the following stats:

            1. Population
            2. Mfg Goods
            3. Productivity
            4. Land Area
            1st C3DG Term 7 Science Advisor 1st C3DG Term 8 Domestic Minister
            Templar Science Minister

Keeping an eye one opponent's cities in a pbem...
You'll see their capitols, when pop grows, know how much food they have based on that rate, when they build a settler, grainary, etc...

You can also extrapolate approximates based on your rank (known value) and what others are getting in respective areas if you watch it turn to turn.

              Again, more usefull in pbem.

Yes, very useful in PBEM. In addition to joncnunn's list, think GNP is fairly useful as well, at least until you reach a point in the game where so much of it will be corrupt that it's hard to gauge how much actual gold is being generated.

Flood plain tiles ALWAYS count against you for the Disease statistic. It doesn't matter if you have Sanitation, Hospitals, terrain improvement, or anything else. So if you have Flood Plain tiles in your territory, you will never get below a certain percentage of disease as far as the statistic is concerned, even though you won't be affected by actual disease in your cities.

Isn't it useful in MP, when only humans play?

Not very much, except in an instance where you are warrior rushing your neighbor you can SOMETIMES get a read on how many units he might have around.

The mil advisor is typically better for this purpose though.

If every city has just a library you will have 33%, because they are missing the other 2 science buildings.
There must be a cap on Literacy at 99%. I have Library, University, and Research Center in all my cities, plus the Literature tech of course, plus all the Science GW's, yet I still have 99%. By the formula I should have over 100% (truncated to 100%, you'd think).

Also, I think that the formula is adjusted upwards if you cannot build structures yet. In other words, I think that I have seen Literacy over 66% before I could build Research Centers--i.e. you are not penalized, so to speak, for not being able to build a Science improvement at an earlier point in history.

Yes, 99% is the maximum (which makes sense enough, realistically, who has a 100% literacy rate?) You get 99% automatically if you have the Internet, ironically, which it sounds like you do.
