Well, here we go again. Pursuing my series of ‘crazy’ Sid games, here’s my latest: an OCC cultural win.
If somebody is interested in playing it, here is the starting location: I had to ‘twist’ the map a bit, in order to have a decent starting position. Of course, with my usual luck my (only) iron resource was depleted after about 30 turns. Needless to say, my knights, railroads and factory were a bit more complicated to build, and the Iron Works would remain a hopeless dream…
The strategy of this game was simple (in fact, I wanted to achieve a diplo win… ): go for Republic asap, build the Great Library, then be in a position to built Copernicus’ Observatory and Newton’s University. Afterward, go for Steam Power, Industrialization, ToE etc.
In between, I managed to build the Mausoleum of Mausollos, Sun Tsu, Leonardo’s Workshop, the Sistine Chapel and The Universal Suffrage.
About the map:
This is a tiny archipelago map, 8 civs, 80% water. All islands started with all resources needed to build a spaceship. As in other Sid games (as explained in my 5CC thread), the number of cities determines if the game is winnable or not. In this case, the number of cities should not exceed the magical number of 4. With 5 and more, the AI manages to out-science you at the beginning of the Middle Ages (about 10-15 turns to get Theology to your 25+). After a few techs, you’re hopelessly out-researched.
Therefore, this map was built in order to accommodate a maximum of 4 cities per island. Some AIs built only 3, with no noticeable lagging behind in research. With my twisted sense of humor, I put some volcanoes on some islands. It was quite fun watching a torched city being founded again for the 3rd time… Well, at least it kept whole generations of archeologists happy
