Put this on the conquests.ini file, possibly works in civ.ini also...

    WindowsFileBox=1

You get an Explorer like window with all the regular things you can do with it... New folders, delete files, copy etc...
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

But it doesn't recall the last save you made, so you'll have to look for it yourself.

I know I can do that. I'm just too lazy, so I prefer when it simply pops up and all I do is press Emter.

I play with basically 3 temp saved games called 'a', 'aa' and 'aaa'. They are on top of the saved game list. To save or load, I just double click on one of them.
I have also other saved games with the leader short name like 'Cleo', 'Napoleon', 'Bismarck'. I use them when the game is not finished, but I want to play with another civ. I keep only one per leader. It's short, easy to type, easy to find.
I almost never use the default name.

Here's the file hierarchy for my saved games:

              C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Saves

I have Civ III, Play the World, and Conquests. They are all in seperate folders under 'Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III'. This was the default location when I installed the games on my primary hard drive. Hope It Helps!

And, what is Fasism? Never heard of it.
About the advanced unit options, I don't see it on the preferences menu, could someone give me the keyboard entry? i really hate making workers do it manually.
And does anyone know what future techs are? They don't seem to do anything(other than waste gold).

Fascism is a form of government in which there is a strict control on daily lives by the government (typically a dictatorship) and nationalism is taken to its extremes. The concept emerged in Europe in ashes of the First World War. Classic examples include Hilter's Nazi Germany and Mussolini's 'new' Roman Empire.

Visit Civopedia (sp?) in the game to learn what Fascism does to your civ.

Future techs were intended to add to your score, but it is so trivial as to not be worth the bother. This is an artifact from previous versions.

I presume you are talking about the show advance actions button:

Tanks in Armies. That's 12 units that can't be upgraded.

The game has been won on entering this turn and there will never be any upgrades available. I hit domination and knew I would not be bothered to research MA.

But even if this game was expected to drag out that far, I would still make tank armies. They can take down forted infantry in any size city. If you try it with anything less they will suffer loses.

I will not be dragging around arties as they are too slow and not required. I can take down a city without busting up all the infrastructure. I don't pillage normally either as I see everything as mine.

BTW I am sure I have more that just one tank army in those towns. You see I have exposed workers, that is because I had seen I had passed the domination levels and made peace before ending the turn. I just wanted to slap in connections with rails.

You do know I was being sarcastic???

It was cool though to see 3 of them. In my games lately by the time I get to Mass Production games are usually over. Like you, I guess I'll have to start playing domination games and bigger maps with more civs. The only exception has been my Sumerian diversion from the other thread. Playing someone elses game is more fun. Fixing their mistakes and playing catch-up. More challenging then even the harder settings.

One way to extend the game is to pevent UN votes, by either building the UN and not holding elections or turning it off.

Now you have to get SS or culture or Dom and that tends to take a bit. Culture can be done at emperor or lower, but will take much loner above that as you will not be getting lots of the early wonders.

I find that my sid games it is tricky to even stay alive with culture, I have to rely on the AI to hold each other in check till I can grow large enough to prevent the doubling.

You can use more water and less land to slow down the tech pace as well. But either way islands makes it hard to end the game before modern era.

No I did not know it was intnded as a jest, but anyway now it is clear for those that come later. I was not offended or anything.
