  • population roster question

i haven't played civ3 in a pretty long time so maybe I'm missing something... whenever I select one of my citizens in the city population roster to be a scientist or tax collector, this doesn't affect my science or tax income in the city. Am I supposed to do something special in order to get it to affect the city's stats?

Pre-conquests, those specialists' effects won't be seen in your city screen. Don't worry, though, they are counted at the actual civilization level that they contribute to.

You really notice this little overlooked piece of display when you take a whole bunch of population points and turn them into scientists. Watch the expected time for the next tech go way down, but the reported number of beakers per turn remain the same.

Althought they show in the city they still don't count in the F1 screen of Conquests.

I once made an error in thinking someone had discovered a tech from a hut because the paticular tech cost had gone down by about 10% (it hadn't, just that 10% of my science was from unaccounted scientists). I asked them if they wanted to trade and I got a response saying they didn't have that tech. I nearly fell out with them because I thought they were tech embargoing me.
