I think it'll be released earlier. They're busy on it for almost a year already, I think.
I wouldn't be surprised if they'll release it christmas '04

They won't publish that much info as with civ3, since that worked contra-productive. The long long hype worked against them. (yin anyone?)

About a month before Christmas Civ3.5 will come on sale. Civ4 proper (i.e the finished version) will be released as a patch at the end of January

No, Civ 3 will not be released this year. 6 months from releae, you would have some info. They are in the very early planning stages, or were a few months ago, and that means just that. From what I've heard, some coding has already been started, but I expect a Christmas 2005 release to be the earliest.

And Cybershy, I assure you that they read the posts... I know .

I cannot image they could get it out by xmas. I agree with Solver, next xmas (2005) is the best they could expect.

E3 2005 should be the unveiling.

Civ4 this year? If it happened, I wouldn't touch this game with a ten-foot poll...
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

If Civ4 were going to be released this year, the marketing campaign would already have started with sneak previews to the major magazines and websites, Special closed door E3 showings, developer diary updates, etc. For a AAA title, there are certain formalities that need to be followed to ensure sales.

Since this hasn't happened, it is safe to assume that it won't be released this year.

Well, last time things went pretty wrong because of that 'long long long' marketing campaign.

Last time things went wrong mainly because they had nearly 100% turn over in the development team about half way through the project (the original team left to form their own company).

We should make a bet on who 'll leave the team this time

Even if Sid would leave it would most obviously still be named "Sid Meier's Civilization IV"

In reality, it is Soren Johnson's Civ4.
