True....mined/RR tundra is the same as roaded forest tundra, so it becomes a decision of when do you get the most benefit from chopping the forest and replacing it with a mine and RR.Originally posted by DrSpike

Actually, I try to get my tundra railroaded, then forested, even if I do utilize a chop. I'm not sure why, other than the aesthetics of it and possible defense in the unlikely event my arctic cities are ever a target.

Not to mention that the AI isn't smart enough to manage it's land the way humans can. Once it chops down a Forest, it will rarely replants. On Grassland, it will never plant a Forest.Originally posted by Trip
Because later in the game you have a ton of Workers with nothing to do but clean up pollution, and you can essentially build huge amounts of improvements essentailly for free with enough idle Workers.

And I would guess that if you moded some terraign improvement to add both food & shields that railroading such terraign would cause both to benifit further.
