  • Upgrade all units?

    OK, simple question for you...

How do you upgrade all units of a common type. Since buying civ3 I have been spending hours at a time upgrading each knight to cavalry, or musketman to rifleman. I have missed the "upgrade all" option from SMAC (even though I only played it for a few weeks!). Now I hear there is an upgrade all option with civ3

    How did I miss it!!

    And where is it??

Is there no buton or icon for it? No drop down menu? Does that seem old for such a helpful option? Why no listing of the hotkeys in the manual or anywhere else?

(Or am I just exposing my ignorance on this issue further?)

        nope, no button.

        personally i like hotkeys better.

there is a manual on the CD that should contain all the hotkeys, except those they added in patches (if there are any of those)

If you go into thge civ encaiclopedia (Sorry, I can't spell that word), then Game concepts, there is a section called hotkeys. That has all of them in.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Icon would be a bit of an over kill form so seldom of a used item. Anyway Shift+U is about as easy as it can get.

Some of us do prefer buttons, and having an additional one for this feature would not clutter up the screen too much...

You are kidding, right? It has too many buttons already. How often do you do a mass upgrade? So many that Shift U is a problem? I would rather they did some useful, like fix some bugs.

Oh come on, why fix bugs, when feeding them is so much more fun? Bring on the paint!!

My apologies Thriller, oh and et al.

Well I have been working on a Mod for months. Firaxis cannot seem to keep simple priorities straight. That is unfortunately painfully apparent. Not jumping to errant conclusions here, just why change things we didn’t ask for, that are not particularly important, however then willy nilly drop the ball, leave off important matters, with few disclosures and all the while promising ‘something’ better with CIV 4? This only of course just mildly scratches the surface.

Rather than simply ranting (which generally is against my Philosophy ) I resort to sarcastic humor, well knowing there often is not much difference. But then, there decidedly does either seem much difference between a 'well fed bug' and genuine features so far concerns what appears to ‘habitual Firaxis behavior’.

                          Thanks for noticing.

Yes, I hear you. Some things have been changed for no apparent reason - like dumping Radio and other associated tech tree changes, which has apparently caused screw-ups in the graphics files. Although thse changes don't really bother me one way or the other, the associated bugs do. Furthermore, I haven't seen any explanation of why such changes were made (other than change for changes' sake), which I think would be rather nice to know.

And of course, plenty of people have gone to lengths to point out the bugs that Firaxis did not address, some even by their own admission. So I won't go into that.

Overall, it's nice to have them working on the product and serving the community with patches periodically, but a bit of a hollow victory when the result isn't up to scratch, as seems to be the case from the early comments I've seen so far (though I haven't personally installed the 1.20 patch yet).
