  • First Conquests AU game starting soon!

The first ever C3C Apolyton Univestity game, AU501: The Power of Seafaring is going to start at the end of this week. Make sure you don't miss it! It's going to be a great learning experience, and a chance to see how other players take advantage of the new Seafaring trait.

Comparing your game to others', you will get a chance to see how the new corruption model in the 1.15 patch affects the balance of governments, Forbidden Palace placement, and strategy in general. You will get first-hand experience with the Byzantine Dromon. You can play under stock rules, or you can be one of the first to play a game with the C3C version of the AU mod. And if you feel like a challenge, you can even play against an AI that makes better research decisions so that it's more unpredictable and takes advantage of its civ traits.

In case you're wondering, Apolyton University is a school of strategy, where students sharpen their Civ3 skills and share their experiences in a series of thematic games. When playing an Apolyton University game, gaining and sharing knowledge is more important than getting a high score, a fast finish, or even winning the game. Participants are encouraged to share their strategy after the game, and even to try several attempts.

Visit the AU History thread, and read all about past courses.

See you in the AU forum!

Let me give some props for the effort put in by alexman in getting the AU MOD this far.

Where is the Dean? Starting this thread is his job.

IMHO it's a pity next AU course is based upon beta patch 1.15.

I believe many, if not most civvers, haven't installed this beta patch yet, as the official patch will be released end of February.

So AU501 will mostly appeal to the die hard civvers and pc wizards, who don't mind installing beta after beta and copying/saving original files in order not to get surprised badly afterwards ...

I think AU courses should be played with original conquests versions (AU mod allowed), not with a beta patch that has just been released and that many don't even bother to install...

Well there has not been an AU game for some time now and there are all optional.

There really is no reason to wait for an offical patch at this point.
1.15 is not going ot break the game and without any of the beta patches it is a big problem.

1.15 is going to be essentially the offical patch, so why not get use to it.

The only things you have to do is to install C3C and apply the 1.15 patch. You hardly have to be a 'PC wizzard' to know how to that!

If you have games in other versions running (for example, I have PBEMs which are agreed to be played with 1.12 for now) it can get a PITA to switch versions all the time. Although it's fairly easy just to save your main directory and the Text subfolder for the different versions and to restore what you need at the moment, it still can be forgotten, what in case of a PBEM would mean to replay the game from that point (major bugger).

I will probably release the scenario file instead of individual saves. This does away with any problems/worries about patches (I think). It's also less work for me. I just hope everyone remembers not to "peek" at the map when loading the scenario...

BUMP! And the location for all language versions of the latest Beta patch (v1.15) are here.

As alexman says, all you need do is install Conquests and the correct language version of this patch and then play!

Even I will probably manage to install that patch (I managed 1.12 so far...)
