Japan has almost always been my favourite civ, and that hasn't changed in the slightest. Germany earns a second. But the Mayans and the Celts are strong contenders in my books.

Voted Byzantine but could have gone with the Dutch just as easily.

The Byzantine Droman is just so uber powerful. It replaces the Galley in the Ancient age. As a seafaring civ, it moves 4. It has an attack of two as opposed to 1 making it the king of the seas until Astro. It works as a transport, just like the galley (two units). But one of the strongest points of a Droman gets skipped. It can bombard both land and sea units. Just think of them as defensable catapults. If you use them in a stack, you can take any coastal city you want. Declare war, move in next to a city, drop off your troops, bombard the hell out of the city, end turn. At the start of the next, blow up any remaining units to one HP then walk right in with your troops you dropped of last turn. How can it be stopped?

The dutch have a great trait combo. You get the Ag trait for rapid expansion and the Sea trait for early contact. Then, once your empire has grown, you throw in the Swiss Merc (a 4 defense Pike) and your empire is safe from aggressors.

          Well this stinks!!!

They only give you up to 24 choices. I only put the c3 and c3c so I will have to start another thread to get a accurate account.

Well, even if another poll goes up my choice will be the same. I like the Iroquois with their quick agriculture-driven growth and their commercialism to allow for that larger, more productive empire. The UU is a powerful fast-mover that doesn't come ultra-early (unless you want it to) whose only downside is the need for horses.

Oh, and Rome would be my second choice most likely.

I like rome as well but Persians to me get the science way faster. But as I am new I really dont have a sy so. I still think one got left out! If a mod sees this can he update this poll to add them. I think it might be Austria.

                Byzantines rule! scientific + commercial!
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Don't you mean scientific and seafaring?

I prefer China or Japan. Although they weakened "Industrious" a bit, it still gives a significant advantage to workers. Faster expansion of infrastructure is definately extremely important in the early game.
