  • I have a question. How does the corruption compare to the original, unpatched, Civ3?

I know there is little chance of my laptop getting the patch, and I just hope I can stand it (since I will be playing more of my games with my Laptop, as opposed to the computer I'm on right now).

    • As far as I am aware the corruption is effectively the same, but in C3C you can have Policemen with Nationalism who decrease it slightly in cities.

The FP bug applies only if you actually build the Forbidden Palace, of course.

      • It's been so long since the first version if Civ3 that I can't remember exactly, but here are some more differences between C3C and unpatched Civ3:

        - C3C has increased the OCN for all map sizes
        - C3C gets a penalty for RCP, Civ3 gets a bonus
        - In unpatched Civ3, police stations don't decrease corruption.
        - In unpatched Civ3, courhouses don't increase the OCN, they just reduce distance corruption (not 100% sure about this one, but if it's true, it was fixed in one of the first patches)
        - In unpatched Civ3, the commercial trait increases the OCN by 10%, not 25%

        • What we really need is some way of calculating corruption that doesn't require too much thinking and planning to get things right.

How about this for a new rank 'formula': City ranks are not based on distance but on quality. Every new city you build(or aquire) automatically gets the lowest rank. At the end of each turn a single pass bubble sort is done to give the 'best' cities better rank.

Example: you got five 7+ cities and build #6, which is very close to your capitol. Normally #6 would kick the others down the rank ladder but now it would be last until it got enough production and commerce to pass one of the other cities.

PS. bongo, if you don't like "thinking and planning", you might be playing the wrong game!

              • I'm glad RCN doesn't really work now, because I never truly understood RCN, and I like to feel like those who did are now more on my level.

(the above is, of course, humor. Although I really never did quite get RCN)

I never really figured it out either, but my build patterns were naturally circular, just feels more right to me, love symmetry. so I was likely benifitting from it (like most other players for the 2 years) unkowingly.

                        • alexman , I don't mind the thinking and planning. As a matter of fact that is one of many reasons I like the game. I just happens to dislike the way they 'fixed' the RCP-exploit.

                          Still don't have c3c though

                          • wow, hope Firaxis fixes it soon. I still don't own C3C (it was not released here, AFAIK), so I'll be glad if by the time I get it, there is already a patch to fix this and other bugs.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

                            • The corruption really sucks...
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

                              • Please don't get angry at me for posting this; I'm about to re-read this entire thread, in an attempt to answer my own question. But if someone could re-cap, I'd be thrilled:

Is it benefical now, if one is building a massive (huge, gigantic, continent-encompassing) empire, to build the FP and the SPHQ?

I am in the middle ages, control about 40% of the continent, and I'd like to make it 100% - about half of the entire world (huge map). I have the military capacity to do so, but if there's nothing I can do about corruption, then I'll stop and be a nice boy and try to win the game the "PUP" way.

But, if corruption's just "worse," not "internimable," then I'll plunk down my FP. I'm ready, I've got a perfect position for it.

Thanks tout le monde... now, to read.
