  • Are we close to civ2 yet?

Hello all, I haven't actually bought conquests yet but I was wondering if, with this new addition, the scenario making ability of civ3 is anything near to that of civ2, is there any kind of event scripting even on the most basic of levels, and what other features have been addded to the editor, thanks!

Nope, they added a grand total of !!!!!ONE!!!!! major improvement! Now you can make a civilization less or more likely to research a particular technology. Even if set to 100% unlikely to research it, if they have nothing else to research, they will still research it anyway. There is still no button to make a tech "unresearchable". I seriously think that civ3 should be scrapped and forgotten entirely...go back to civ2 and try to make the "real" civ3 from scratch.
Yes, I am the King of Babylon.
No, you don't have to bow if you don't want to.

Without making culture optional, civ3 will never come close to civ2.

Not that that's a bad thing.

Huh, like it was much better in Civ2?

When I remember all those Civ2 scenarios and how easily they could be explited to gain easy victory.

Wow, clueless post of the day. Have you even looked at the new editor? I'm not a scenario maker, so I don't know all of the changes, but the editor has been improved. Probably not to the extent you wish, ie. no scripting, but it is more advanced. To say otherwise is just embarrasing on your part. ex. locked alliances, locked war; can't trade certain techs; new stuff to use: volcanoes, plagues, 2x port damage etc. etc.

          Good luck with that.

There are lots of new options in the editor and you can make scenarios but not like in Civ2. There are no event scripts but creative people can probably find different ways to simulate things.

No events? I guess civ2 scenario league will be alive for a long time.

There are many things that it is impossible to simulate. For example, getting a tech when something happens (so you can make things obsolete, for example), giving units, etc.

                  Major problem#1

'hidden/no Era techs' Cannot be assigned as pre-requisite... So the Scenario Idea of, Event X, Gains Tech X, makes obsoloete Units XXXXX, is difficult if not imposible.

Same problem with Era techs... Cant use Horsbackriding as a prerequisite for Modern Cavalry, So even if you never got it back then, You can still reseach it now.

Event Scripting, is still, and will still be a Civ2 Goody, for at least another year (if not 2+)
