  • Another Silly Question

I have another question about my first idea for a mod ...

I was seriously considering making virtually every resource (strategic, luxury, and even bonus resources) have a tech pre-requisite. The result would be that at the beginning of the game, the players would have no idea of the true value of their start position because it would only show terrain and rivers.

I think this is somewhat realistic because the populations inhabiting the land might not recognize the value of resources until they figured out how to use them.

I was wondering what other people thought.

(Also, is it possible to have an optional tech in one age be the requirement for an optional tech in the next age ? or would that screw things up ?)
Thank god, there are no KENDER in Civ3.

It sounds as an interesting concept. Regarding optional age spanning techs I'm not sure you can do so with the editor, but I think it would work if you could set the rules to be in that way. I've not tried it thou.

No it can't be done, era techs aren't tied to each other. The only prerequisite you can have is within an era itself. If you try and have them overlap, the editor will come up with an error message.

The AI will still know where all the resources are, regardless of the techs they have.

I mean by hex editing. Would the game recognize it in the correct way, even if the editor dont?

True indeed. The AI does this kind of cheating, but it would be good for an MP game...

Well you're the programmer, you tell me. As it stands now, it can't be done.

But that doesn't mean that it will be able to use them until they discover the tech. You don't see the AI building roads and/or colonies to Iron resources right from the beginning of the game. It doesn't become a priority until it has the proper tech, even though it knows where it is already.

Give me a break. as it stands now I can almost not run Windows on my system. It's too unstable. I have a very little ability to test things right now. And I have many other things to do besides playing games.
