I really hope the Dutch and Portugese are not sure things: so many other civs deserve to go ahead of them, and not only for map reasons. I am also iffy about the Hittites, though the world owes Summer too much to always ignore them. Though why they give their warrios a huge beard is beyond me.

I voted Ethiopia in the poll: Something in South East Asia like the Thai, Khmer, or "indonesians" (do we means Javanese?) would be great, as well as, moving further east, the Polenyssians. The Hebrews would also be deserving.

I think that the Dutch, Portuguese, Sumerians, and Hittites are all scenario only civs (or at least I hope they are). After all, isn't the Babylonian civ supposed to represent the SUmerians, Hittites, Akkadians, etc? As for the Dutch and Portuguese, there are already too many Western European Civs.

I voted Poland, but my 7 would be: Polish (or Slavic), Incan, Ethiopian, Mali, Khmer, Polynesians, and Hebrews/Israelis

Don't worry, after all it was pretty funny

Is a difficult choice. As a Civ that must be in the game, I'll say Hebrews or Ethiopians. As to fill the map, Indonesia, Thailand or Australia.
As the ones I like (besides which I named before) Canada, Poland, Tartars and POLYNESIANS!!!..

Anyway I'm pretty sure Hebrews are the last civ.

How about Ithkul? (Ooops, wrong forum ) Seriously though, the Amish sound good to me since I'm from Amish country. I don't think I'd want to give "player" status to any nation that was a barbarian race up to now. How about an Islamic nation? At its height Islam spread from France to Indonesia.

With the choices presented so far I could agree on the Hebrews too.

"I think the Huns (Hungary) should be added, but why have the Duth and Portuguese, the game should not be so European "

while Hungary is named after the Huns and they did settle there for a while, they are still central Asian. it was the Magyars that have been in Hungary longer, to my knowledge.

and why do people say Europe is too crowded while advocating more Middle Eastern civs. at least European civs dont overlap terrain-wise.

Hungary is a christian state in central-easten Europe since 1000AD, and it has little to do with the Huns. It is inhabited with Hungarians (magyars) since 896AD, who also came from Asia. They may be relatetives of the huns, but this isn't proven.

The magyars/hungarians were fierce warriors and skilled horsemen, just like the huns, and it took about 100 years to give up their nomadic, warrior-like lifestyle. In 1000AD Stephen chistianized the nation and became the first King of Hungary.

In short time Hungary became one of the most powerful Kingdoms of central-eastern Europe and remained so until they were conquered by the Ottomans in the XVI-th century.

The country never regained its former glory, except for a short time as a part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. After WWI Hungary lost 2/3 of its territories and today it is only a small country. They will join the EU in 2004.

As for the huns, except their exceptional fighting skills, you can't really include them in civ3. They were nomadic, and didn't have a country of their own.

PS Speaking about an overcrowded Europe: so what? How many of you and how often play on a premade, real world map? Besides you can always choose your civs, you don't have to play with all of them in the same time.

Based upon nothing more than fleshing out the world map: Nubia, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe.

I do it all the time. Its better to play a familiar civ in its natural setting. If you use a randomly generated world you may as well call your civ the Klingons (or any other random name) for all the difference it really makes.

I'd definitely agree with Zimbabwe. They should have been the starting civ in Southern Africa instead of the Zulu.
