After your success and LF's efforts with his vet spies I suspect it will be 1 super power and a couple of AI civs that are also playing the game.

    • Well, an all-out vet spy attack is very tempting, and would take only 3-4 turns to arrange. If suitcase nukes were used, the AI city count would be cut in half in one fell swoop.

But conventional late-game strategy should be able to win as well.
I will be very interested in La Fayette's approach this turnset.

You are going to have to wait several days, because the game takes more than 1 hour/turn and my game collapsed after I had played about 4 turns

I got very upset and decided not to play that silly game again until Christmas

Nothing better on Christmas day than settling down with a glass of claret to play a few turns of Silly Rules after listening to the Queen's speech - can you get that in France? (The claret I mean )

            1) I (almost) never drink claret outside meals
            2) I can play sooner because I (almost) never listen to the Queen's speech (and I don't listen much to Chirac either )

                • I am fairly sure that someone will be able to explain how I can paste my log directly into my post instead of posting it as attached file.

                  Anyway, here is the savegame

I decided to try to play 'nice': no nukes, no spies with heavy suitcases, ... and the like. This meant building howies, engineers and transports.

                    Picture in 1962:
                    Foreign cities = 44 (3 Russian, 2 English, 20 Zulu, 19 Spanish)
                    Silly striking force = 18 armours, 24 howies, 15 engineers, 12 transports

                    Picture in 1970:
                    Foreign cities = 20 (9 Zulu, 11 Spanish)
                    Silly striking force = 18 armours, 53 howies, 30 engineers, 23 transports

IMO I have been able to strike hard enough to avoid large scale building of SS parts by our foes. I suppose that my successor will be able to avoid capital chasing (which means crushing them before they launch ).

You could copy and paste from the Word log to this forum "post reply" box. When I have tried it this way, however, all the formating effort (like spacing for tables) goes out the "window". If there is a better way to transfer a compter log to this space, I would like to know as well.

                      • M La Fayette,

Your effort is very impressive to behold!! Elegantly done!! I like the more traditional approach you took with this assault. I suppose many others were expecting you to spy-nuke the AI to smoking ruin, but you demonstrated that was unnecessary.

And it avoids a global warming disaster!!

One question if you don't mind. I notice that you are building Alpine Troops in several of the newly captured cities. Why not Mech Infantry for garrison duty?? Is there some reason to prefer Alpines?? Thanks.

This is all out war: I (almost) don't build any units for garrison duty, (almost) only strong attack units, such as howies and stealth fighters.
If you have noticed Alpine under building, they have a 99% chance to be switched to Howies (if I were the next player ).

                            • I agree with you though that Mec Inf is really good to have when defending against modern units (but when you are on the attack, you had better let the AI build defenders: "la meilleure manière de se défendre, c'est d'attaquer").

                              • The best defense is a good offense, indeed.

                                Well done, sir!
