          • Amazing work, Pablo.
Meanwhile, I did this A7 Corsair attack plane this evening:
            A Vietnam era USN A7E
            &
            A Greek A7H
(The camo works for USAF/Portuguese planes too. Thailand paints its Corsairs grey)

                • Doesn't France still have some corsairs in their Navy?

P.S. damn nice looking by the way

                  • Thanks!
Actually France used the original F4U corsair after the war, not the A7 corsair II
France uses/used (not sure if they still do) its sibling, the F8 Crusader fighter plane, on their carriers.

It looks much the same, though the proportions differ (it is longer, with a diffrent wing and a conical raddome)

It was a USN champion, early in the Vietnam war- being fast, agile and having the guns the Phantoms lacked. I think some F8's went to the Philipines, besides France.

                      • France used the Vought F8 Crusader, but it was replaced by the Dassault Etendard/Super Etendard in the 80's. And now, the Dassault Ráfale will be the main fighter of the Aeronavale Française

Ok, if you are interested, here is a French built VAB-VCI infantry vehicle, and a Spanish built BMR 600 APC. You can use both of them to make several Cavalry/Panzergrenadiers units

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the French simulaneously used both aircraft. The F-8s flew in the air-to-air mission while the Etenards flew air-to-surface/sea missions. Given that both aircraft were outdate in the 70s, such an airwing is a good indication on where the French Navy sits on the pecking order!

                          • I agree with Case on the simultaneous order thing, however I actually believe that the super etendard/ exocet weapon system has proven its efectiveness in battle. Moreover, we should not forget that US navy crusaders had a better dogfight ratio than contemporary Phantoms in Vietnam,if only because of their guns and better maneuverability.
On the other hand, the Phantoms were used as bombers as well, which meant that most of their losses were due to ground fire over the north (AAA & SAMs) and accidents, when flying low (radars couldn't follow the terrain back then).
Crusaders weren't made to go through that.

Speaking of NAM, a few USAF F104C's fought there.
Here is my second try on the Starfighter, NATO's mainstay fighter/bomber for a quarter of a century
(used by almost all Nato countries as well as Pakistan, Jordan, Taiwan, Japan, Spain before Nato admission etc.)
My previous starfighter looked too fat.
Time to go on a diet.
