Don't mean to be presumptious Case, but if you are indeed making an East Timor scenario, this could be of some help. I once entertained the very same idea and tried my hand at modifying some units.
None of the work is mine. Credit should go to curtsibling and danny evilcat. With your superior skills they would look better. From left: Indonesian Kopassus commando, an ADF guy with a hat.

Gareth, may I mess with your paton a bit? I basically want to fit the M47 turret on the same hull."Whoever thinks freely, thinks well"

That's fantasitic tanelorn! Thanks a lot.
Likewise, thanks for thes units Typhoon. The Australian soldier is rather out of date though - the slouch hat has only been worn on formal occasions since the Korean war, and Aussie troops now wear camoflauge - see www.army.gov.au for pictures.

An Australian scenario would be great. What's it going to be about, East Timor?
BTW, Case, what armour do the aussies use? Leo 1, M113 and ASLAV?
I hear that they are shopping for a replacement MBT now.'Arguing with anonymous strangers on the internet is a sucker's game because they almost always turn out to be - or to be indistinguishable from - self-righteous sixteen year olds possessing infinite amounts of free time.'

Yep, that's about it. Australia has about 50 operational Leo 1s, 300 M-113s (which are being modernised), and the ASLAV fleet is being increased from 111 to about 200 (a second recon regiment is being equiped with them). 300 'Bushmaster' infantry mobility vehicles (ie, armoured trucks) are going to be introduced over the next few years, with most of them going to the Army Reserve.
It's a little bit hush-hush at the moment, but it looks like the government has given in-principle support for the aquisition of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany. The current chief of the Army is commited to the project, and the tanks are available at a very modest price. Personally, I'm all for it - the Leo 1s are deathtraps and I don't feel that it's right to ask soldiers to go to war in them.
Leos1 a deathtrap? Never heard that before.A friend of a friend served in an armoured division with Leos1 and he had only good words to say for them.
But we use a special made version of Leos 1A5 customized for the Greek army. Although i think the customization only applies to their tracks....i am sure Tanerlorn can shed more light here."Military training has three purposes: 1)To save ourselves from becoming subjects to others, 2)to win for our own city a possition of leadership, exercised for the benefit of others and 3)to exercise the rule of a master over those who deserve to be treated as slaves."-Aristotle, The Politics, Book VII

Ahem. Greek custom made Leopards are based on the Leo 1 A3, (welded turret) with better electronics (a better MOLF etc.) We also got Leo 1 A5's from Germany because of the weapons limit treaty, and the sub contracts and finaly we got the Dutch Leo 1 V's because of the kortenaer deal, I think. These 1V's have a different cast turret.
In all, I think its about +/- 100 Leo 1 GR, 200 Leo 1V and 60 or 70 Leo 1 A5. I could be wrong, its what I recall.
We won't have to go that far to kick anybody's behind, even if we don't wish to, Pericles. We are in the world's most quarelsome neighborhood.

Po, po!
kai nomiza oti ego imoun o monos kamenos pou kathetai mexri tis teseramisi ston ipologisti tou!!
My hypothetical confrontation of an Australian-Greek conflict was obviously based purely on the relative OOBs of the respective armed forces in paper.
Actually now i think of it the Greek army must outnumber and outgun many more economically stronger nations....
I remember reading a list of the top 20 most defence spending countries(did i say that right?) and we ranked sixth or seventh or something like that....
USA,Turkey, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan were above us i believe.
Pfff.... i must stop reading all those ancient warfare history books and get back in touch with the modern world......"Military training has three purposes: 1)To save ourselves from becoming subjects to others, 2)to win for our own city a possition of leadership, exercised for the benefit of others and 3)to exercise the rule of a master over those who deserve to be treated as slaves."-Aristotle, The Politics, Book VII
